The after market seat protectors you can buy aren't recommended, by car seat safety experts. I don't see how this would be any different. It's a nice idea, but I don't think it's safe.

I have several family members who are early-childhood educators. From the perspective of attention disorders and classroom performance, the recommendation is the age of the child in hours per week. That's the maximum.

Personally, we don't own a tv and we try to block all screen time or our 17-month old. It's hard though, since tvs, phones, tablets and computers are everywhere. We do our best and don't stress over it. Once he's two, we plan on having family movie night once a week. I watched too much tv as a child and I feel it did me a disservice. I wish I had played outside more,

As with everything in parenting, you need to reevaluate periodically and do what is best for your child and the family as a whole. I think it's important to look at new research and decide what works for you.

My husband has a hyphenated name. My mother-in-law hyphenated her name and all her children have the same last name. When my husband and I married, I heard all the jokes about multiple hyphens. I'm not sure who would think that is even an option. I mean, really?

I thought about it a long time. Do I just keep my maiden name? Do I take the hyphen? Do I hyphenate with my name and only one of my husband's names?

Ultimately, I decided to take my husband's name and keep my maiden name as my middle name. I knew we wanted children and it was important to me that we all have the same family name. My maiden name is very uncommon, however, so I may have chosen differently if my niece and nephew didn't have hyphenated last names. They'll continue on with the family name.

I kind of love how confused people are by my last name and how shocked they are that my husband came with a hyphen. It makes a great conversation starter.

Looks tasty.

I make something similar, although my version is much more simple. I use 16oz of whole wheat rotelle, 1 jar of marinara, 1 jar of water, plus add-ins (I like to add spinach.) Cover with foil. Bake at 425 for 30 minutes, remove foil and cover with 2 cups of cheese. Bake 10 more minutes. This is great for when you are just too tired to really cook.

I just took a 5 hour trip (each way) with my 9 month old. Most of what I tried has already been mentioned (leaving at nap time, new toy, etc.) One thing I would add. If you are going to be driving a major change in altitude be prepared for a lot of fussing on the decent. My son was great on the trip to our destination--a climb of 4,000 feet--but the return trip wasn't so great. My theory is that the decent hurt his ears. We made it though and it was worth it. I just had to stop a lot to nurse him and at one point, in desperation, I gave him Tylenol. It helped, but not much.

Good luck! You deserve the vacation.

My son is too young for peanut butter or nut butters, but I have several friends who are allergic to peanuts or other nuts. If you really like the pb&j bar idea, why not use sunflower butter? It tastes very close to peanut butter and I've never met anyone allergic to sunflower seeds. It's comparable in price too.

I think any finger food will work. In my experience, any food is kid friendly if it's cut small and in cute shapes. I love the fruit kabob idea and my niece loved hummus at that age.

I have several on hand for whatever mood strikes me!

Sriracha, Tabasco, Tapatio and two types of Golden Toad (habanero and chipotle) are what I have in the house at the moment. Golden Toad is great stuff! I discovered it at the Fiery Foods Show last year. If you can't find it you can order it online. It's so worth it! I actually drive 20 minutes to the nearest store that has it.

I water bath can my pickled jalapenos with a 1:1 ratio of vinegar to water without problems. Perhaps the difference is that I use salt? I know that salt helps preserve and keep bacteria at bay as well. I could see needing more vinegar when not using salt.

No salt? I do a lot of canning and have never seen a pickling recipe without salt. That also seems like a lot of vinegar. I usually do a 1:1 ratio of vinegar to water.

I wouldn't use the filters that attached to the faucets (like #3.) They will actually cause your faucet to leak over time and you'll need to have repairs done. We used to have one and the plumber who fixed our faucet said this was a common complaint with these types of filters.

I don't fine it gross, but a teddy bear??? What a waste of a precious resource. Encapsulating or burying under a tree I get, the rest, not so much.

I wonder if putting a few charcoal briquettes in the dryer (not with it on, obviously) and letting it sit a day or two would help? Charcoal absorbs odors really well.

Unless you are compulsive and like to mop once or twice daily (or if you don't actually use your kitchen), I wouldn't do it. We have a white tile kitchen floor in the rental we are in and I hate them! They stay clean for maybe 20 minutes, if that.

To me, it's not a snickerdoodle without cream of tarter. They need that bite that cream of tarter provides.

I use an old Pillsbury recipe and they always come out chewy and stay that way until they are gone. Mine don't turn out so flat like the picture though. I'm surprised they stay chewy. In my experience, flat cookies dry out faster.

Polenta with poached eggs and greens sauteed with a little olive oil and some salt. If you are eating with your friend, you can add hot sauce to yours.

Pasta with butter and cheese. Plain, but safe.

Can your friend eat miso, mirin and soy sauce? I've made a great Japanese eggplant stirfry that has a sauce made of those. It does have onions and peppers in it, but those could be omitted and you could add a protein or other vegetables and serve with rice. I believe it's 2T of miso, 1T soy sauce and 1T of mirin. You could probably omit the mirin and a bit of water if necessary.
