I just made two of these last week! My one suggestion, if you don't already have a die cutting machine or butterfly hand die cuts, go on etsy and search butterfly die cuts. There are many sellers that will make a custom package for you in the colors you want. It's so inexpensive and way better than hand cutting 100+ butterflies!

Have the sheets and towels you will be using the first night of your stay washed and packed in a bag that you can access. Then you can just make up your bed, shower and sleep at the end of the day.

Ditto the 72 hour bag with everything you will need to shower/get ready. I packed a 12 hour bag but moves never go as smoothly as you think and it's no fun to be digging through boxes at midnight for toothpaste or having to put the same dirty clothes on the next day.

This product is good, but for perfect stainless all the time... use the original Pledge. It's amazing. I learned about it from my mother's housekeeper. You have to put it on with one cloth and then buff it off with a dry cloth, but it will make your stainless appliances look brand new and it somehow keeps the fingerprints off (or at least from really standing out). Now it looks like i have a houosekeeper :) The pledge multi surface is great for in between touch ups and awesome for granite couontertops. I am in no way paid for this sort of review... just a product I would also receommend.

I swear by these things. I live in a 100 yr old bdg, with a bathtub drain that seems about that old. I would be scared to put any chemicals down there. Mine also has a pipe that bends into the wall. You should be able to find a little slot towards the bottom of the drain trap on the wall side. The Zip it will bend and slide right in and go in about 6-8 inches. It doesn't need to go in the entire way of the strip, because the clog will be mainly up around the beginning of the drain. Follow up with a little baking soda and boiling water for good measure and your drain will be cured.

You can re-use them, but you will want gloves or paper towels and a garbage can nearby to throw away the clog- not another drain or toilet. Depending on how nasty your clog is, you may find it worthwhile to just throw it away.

I have issues at parties and my worst injuries are always in front of people.

I was slicing some additional rolls with a sharp serrated knife after too many glasses of wine, started laughing at a friend and sliced through the roll all the way across my palm holding the roll. I aksed "who's not afraid of blood? I might need some help" as most of my guests turned very pale...

At another party I grabbed a white earthenware dish straight off the granite forgot countertop, because I forgot it had just come out of a 450 degree oven. Guests arrived just as tears were running down my face and I had my hand wrapped in an ice filled towel all night.

A Birds of Paradise plant will grow well in low or indirect light. They get pretty tall and their leaves grow up so they won't be dragging the ground for your pets to eat. Stay away from diffenbachia. It will grow anywhere, but its commonly known as 'dumb cane' and very harmful to pets.

I love it.

I don't sew (not at all and I can't learn) but have been wanting to get to curtains made from marimekko fabric. Anyone know someone they can refer me to that won't charge as much as the fabric?

Crest Lighting in Lakeview has a lot of options. If you dont like what they have on display, you can look at any of their manufacturers catalogs and they will order for you. It is where a lot of contractors go as well.

Thanks for all the responses. I didnt expect this question to make it. In a drafty 100 yr old Chicago condo building, it does get cold close to the ground, so that is one reason I dont love sleeping near the floor. Like others have said, I guess I am just more conditioned to think tall beds are more comfortable. I appreciate the insight on the taller options for beds and the high headboards.

For those of you who dont like their mattress too tall, but need a box spring, I just learned recently that they now sell half height box springs to accomodate today's super high mattresses. As far as the cost of a box spring, it's usually free with the purchase of a mattress so it doesnt typically impact the price.

Mamaviol, your comment is the best - I have thought about that. I know I would misjudge my steps in the dark and have some banged up shins! Thanks, Meredith

I have had 3 years of holidays parties serving red wine. This year, someone finally dumped a whole glass. Of course it all landed on my off-white newly upholstered arm chairs. We used emergency club soda that evening, and then bought a bottle of wine away the next day and a pack of Tide pens (for the water rings left by the club soda). It took 2 bottles of Wine Away and some elbow grease but it worked. It was amazing. My chair looks (almost) like new. I will now keep it on hand before the red wine serving event.

Domicile has been going out of business for a while now so most of the furniture and mirrors have been picked over. I dont know if they have any left, but they had a bunch of nice Amenity Pillows, and are willing to sell them for way below thier suggested price of $95-$105. A little polite haggling worked well for me.

I had my first experience with a Chemex at a friend's family beach house this summer. I had never even heard of it. I was immediately in love with the coffee. Everyone else scoffed at the time it takes for a cup of coffee but I think the coffee is worth it. I do prefer it now to a french press. I was told the right way is definitely to start with a little water to dampen the grinds and filter, then pour in the rest. It holds up well in the microwave and also does well in the fridge for iced coffee on warm days.

Plastic bags are great for pets and when it rains. When you live in the city and have to set those paper bags down to fish out keys, things can get a little precarious...

I didnt write the post on the Ralph Lauren blankets, but your best bet might be the Michigan Ave store. The Barefoot Dreams blankets are so hot. Unless you keep your temp at artic levels, they are almost uncomfortable.
