Not sure if it would be durable enough, but I've always liked the STRUT table from Blu Dot. It's large and has a steel frame and MDF top. Apartment Therapy - Good Questions: Large Work Table? |

I went by this afternoon. They have a few nice one-of-a-kind credenzas that, while expensive (even at 50% off) are beautiful and could be worth it if it's just what you're looking for.
