First wanting to buy some things I can 'trust' and then as my girlfriend found out she was allergic to gluten, Bob's has been the one source to keep up with our changing dietary demands - and every product delivers. We just made a gluten free boule out of Bob's products and it was amazing - I've never been such a fan of any company before. Thanks Bob's!

I had a maker once and thought the portions it made were too small and the results were no different than using a crock pot. And personally, the yogurt you make can be excellent when you do it on your own, but these days there are so many good yogurt choices in the store I decided to stop making my own.

My grandmother used a clear glass container for cereal and all it did was give me a bowl of mealworms. I'm serious, it's a BAD idea.

I can make a number of general suggestions on grilling vegetables, but really pick up one of the Mark Bittman books - he has some amazing things to make that can turn the most hardened anti-vegetable soul around.

I have been sans shampoo for about a year and it's been great. I also love that when I travel, I do not need to pack bottles of shampoo with me.

I was livid when they canceled Gourmet and forced my 2-plus year subscription to Bon Appetit. Livid. It looks like they hire photographers off Craigslist for their covers and there is nothing worldly in Bon on any level (Gourmet was both cultural inspiration backed by authenticity and an actual travel guide for me). I have tossed virtually every issue sent to me since without even breaking open the wrapper.

But the Gwyneth Paltrow issue had me reading a bit. If it wasn't already paid for, I would never bother with them every again. Why read about nothing inspiring when I have such fantastic food blogs that open my mind to the world? (read David Lebowitz enough and you get not only great foods but a view into Paris, a combination I sorely miss from Gourmet)

So they have a LONG way of being useful, but since it's in my mailbox I will keep my mind open.

And I will never forgive Condé for ruining Gourmet.

I can't stomach commercial ketchup because it takes like overly sugared tomatoes to me. While I've never made the homemade version above, I do make a huckleberry ketchup that I like on things from the grill a lot. Otherwise, I use mustard only.

I had this problem and it turned out that the gas was not distributing properly and therefore the flame was not even. At first I thought it might have been clogged and I took it out and checked it. When that didn't work out, I called the gas company. They sent someone out FOR FREE to check it out - and it turned out that the part where the gas enters the distributor (sorry, I have no idea what the parts are actually called) was not flowing fast enough and was of centered. A few adjustments and it was drastically improved.

Just do it yourself, don't wait around for a landlord. Just call the gas company.

I'm super highly allergic and had it growing through our massive wisteria. I wound up wrapping myself up, cutting it carefully into segments to control it from whipping around while I'm removing it, and then pulling out all of the roots. It is the only thing that worked.

You can make a homemade mac a cheese in the same time it takes water to boil and pasta to cook. Basic bechamel with some Parmesan cheese mixed in and a healthy dose of black pepper, salt to taste. Mix in the coked pasta and you're done -

Evernote is so essential to my life I do not even know where to begin. And not to nic-pick, it's on the mac as well, and a much better interface. I have a personal account where I keep everything - a notebook just for recipes that I also share with my family, random notes for my art work, invoices and payment, passwords (there is an encryption feature for text), images i love, I can go on and on.

And I have incorporated it into work and we are looking at a wider adoption for keeping our notes, papers, articles, etc. It's amazing -

I only buy it if I am out running and can't find a working fountain to drink from. So during the winter this is more often as they turn off the fountains, but otherwise it's very rare.

There are water fountains virtually everywhere and they are free, even in places with expensive bottled water (museums, concert venues, etc) and bars must give free water. There's no excuse to buy a bottle unless you are in a pinch -

Just replace it. I live in a rented NYC apartment and bring my own chandelier when I move in. Sometimes I will store the existing light fixture and replace it when I eventually move. But I also just buy a new fixture when I leave - it's under $100 for someone renter-appropriate and the landlord gets a new fixture for when it needs to be rented again. Never had a complaint.

It's an excellent way to store onions and other root vegetables. Put one in, tie up the tights, then put another in. Just cut the tights as you need an onion. The small holes in the fabric of the tights keep enough air on the onion to keep it well and they will spoil less...

They aren't difficult to clean actually. I use a standard sieve I have in the kitchen. Just hold the top of the French press over the sieve and run water, which will remove the grains from the filter part. Then fill the press container with some water, swish around and pour into the sieve. The grains fall into the sieve and it's a simple wrist flip to put them into the trash.

And on a side note, I don't get those single servers at all. All of that plastic waste! And you can't buy anyone else's coffee but their's or someone who makes a compatible thing for it. Why would you buy a $100-plus item and then be forced into a program completely controlled by the manufacturer of that program?

I live in NYC and every time I move I spend a few days sealing up the entire apartment. I use clear caulking and seal the time space between the floor and the wall/baseboard, I look for drafts around windows, and unrelated to heat I pull out every appliance and seal around pipes, etc. In my current place I eve removed floor boards near the front of the building and sealed under there as well. Virtually no drafts which goes a long way to keeping out the cold -

It's a great idea, but you need to sterilize the container if you want to keep it for any length of time. That I think is the only problem as impurities will turn the wine bad quickly. But I -love- the idea -
