love this apartment, a lot of interesting stuff that makes it look rich and yet not cluttered.

the only thing that irked me, in picture 8, the antlers above the dvr-box with the bust: i think they are from a chamois and should be the other way round (the sharp ends pointing toward the wall)

@shirley-temple-of-doom
cat net is a net similar to goalnets bought under the name 'cat net' in my hardware store. it's ca. 2m wide and can be bought by the meter.(i used 3m)
the holes are about 4cm wide and my cat (although she is on the small side) can put her nose through it but no way the rest of the head could get through because the material is quite resistant and doesn't stretch. otherwise i wouldn't have them because of strangulation issues. BUT if i had a kitten i would rather not use them. their heads might be just small enough.

my cat fell out of the window (15meters) and almost died from her injuries, she spent one week in the clinic and then six weeks with a legcast on "cagerest". (and all because i thought my kitty was smart enough to NOT jump )
i'm still kicking myself because of it and immediately afterwards built window frames out of wood with a special cat-net stapled to the frames. (it was really easy and didn't take long)
i only put them in when the window is open (the rest of the time they live behind a curtain panel, the wardrobe and the kitchen bench)
the are secured with velcro and a little bolt if i want to leave them in longer (during summer nights..) you can see a bit of the frames in this picture: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y106/zimtzucker/cat.jpg

you could build something similar and attach it to the cornerpillar and the side with velcro (it's a bit hard to see in the photos how much space for attaching something you actually have)

and i definitely recommend the net versus a screen-like fabric, because the cat can't rip it or tear holes in it.

i just love prouvé. and if i had that table i would probably pair it with Marais armchairs (preferably in yellow) because of the form of the legs.
there are two options, one with armrests and a slimer one without. i think the marais a (without the armrests )would be better

my oldest ikea plant is a fern, his name is Fronck and he's twelve years old ;-)
two orchids i bought there are also doing well, even managed to get them to re-bloom.
on the other hand, the water plants i bought looked great in my roll-able pond http://tinyurl.com/dy6gyl but turned into slime after some time (couldn't get the water right i guess) so overall i'd say it's a good deal.

YES do it! go get a small fridge.

i find it amusing that quite a few people here seem to have "losing big refridgerator angst"
a small fridge is not the end of the world, even as a family of four and only weekly grocery shopping we never managed to empty the fridge of my childhood home.
and YAY for extra counter space

@ eggholders etc. i have a siemens fridge and all accesories are adjustable/removable

i store my CDs the same way, but i use the Kassett boxes from Ikea because the have the perfect size to fit 2 rows of CDs without having to turn them sideways (like in your photos) and i put them on a piece of plywood with little wheels attached, so i can move them around for cleaning.

the toothpick method NEVER worked for me, the seeds just dried out or got mouldy.
so i thought: what does mother nature do? definitely she isn't threatening the pits with toothpicks??

so i put two avocado pits in the pot of my loyal fern (whose name is Frank btw). broad end in the soil, the tip above the soil. instant success. avocado plants peeking out from under the fern after some time. no extra care necessary.

since then i've grown about 24 plants, only a handful of pits didn't start growing and i've been handing out avocado trees to friends and family because i don't have enough space.

i'm also not a big fan of yellow but i like how it's used here.
and i love the blue-ish grey tones she used, i think the apartment has a very serene atmosphere.

@ the poster who mentioned the noguchi lamp, i think parts of the decor were staged for the photoshoot, when you click through the photos on the domino site you see that in the same spot of the noguchi lamp there is the black kulla lamp from ikea.

the links to the slideshows of the house tours don't work for me. also the 'to all house tours' link is broken.

and i hope the archives also get a "cure" in the future, at the moment they are a bit overwhelming without the possibility to search for specific terms or tags.

beside that i think the new layout looks nice and i love the fused view of all at blogs

@matthew. here's what i've noticed with my own cat:
i work from home, but there are also days when i leave early in the morning and return very late in the evening. these are also the days when the cat can become very annoying, ie just screams and meouws at me, wants me to walk around the apartment with her, shreds the bathmat, scratches the couch etc. i figured it's because she spent the whole day alone sleeping and generally being bored. so now when i come home, immediately after i've 'landed' (taken off shoes, coat, washed hands) she gets an intensive cuddling and later before bed i just generally try to totally waste her by playing. the catdancer, throwing balls, throwing treats, usually she doesn't last longer than 5-10min and my reward is undisturbed sleep.
