#2 looks a lot like my bedroom. it's peacock blue walls, bamboo floors, and white ceiling and trim. be careful though, sometimes where the natural light hits it looks greenish. otherwise i love the dampening and cozy effect it has on my sleeping room. wow. your point is well-illustrated but did it need such a gender-based assumption about one individual? It's the Little Things: 5 Ways to Spend Less & Reduce Clutter |

my living room is similar: aqua and teal FLOR tiles on white 'birch' laminate floors; red lampshade; red fabric drawers in a white Expedit-like shelving unit; red entertainment unit. am considering an aqua ceiling or wall. i didn't realize i was so subconsciously influenced (i am a public librarian). i also have trouble with noise. any suggestions for street noise in a 5th-story end unit? the fan from the commercial building next door is an endless drone. biggest issue is that the apartment windows are not paned, but have jalousies. hate jalousies. "completing the cycle" is a brilliant concept. this puts a name on my discomfort whenever dishes are left in the sink and socks are on the floor. Closet Talk With Organizing Guru: Peter Walsh | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

i just bought my apt and it had white birch-like laminate flooring throughout. i couldn't afford to replace all the flooring, just in the bedrooms where the flooring was in bad shape. the kitchen and living room are still white and my loose dark hairs and the city's dust drive me crazy. BUT they're rampant in the spice-colored bamboo bedrooms as well as the kitchen and living room, so i just have to commit to swiffering the entire place often. that said, i chose espresso-colored cabinets for my new kitchen and the contrast looks pretty great. i'm having trouble getting the 2nd and 3rd photos in large size. i love this site but sometimes it's operationally frustrating. just saying. Before After: Shelby's Fireplace Makeover | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

if you're trying to get RID of books through an online bookswap, i recommend goodreads. i print mailing labels directly from the site and don't have to worry about fronting the cost of shipping, and therefore don't feel like being charitable is costing ME time and money (I rarely requests books). I used to use Bookmooch, but realized that sometimes I paid more for shipping than the book itself was worth. Also, their point system was troublesome and complicated. as a clean-type person i agree with the others: books on the floor is a sweeping/dusting/clean-up nightmare. as a librarian, books arranged by color makes me shudder. but also on a very practical note, i like to keep my books at eye level where i browse my own books on rainy and sick days. i would be inclined to ignore books more often if they were on the floor and hard to reach like that. i'm really not trying to sound smug, but growing up in my korean-immigrants-parents' house we never used paper towels there (we bought/made dish rags) and i never started using them in my own house as an adult. both houses do buy/accummulate paper napkins though and use them on occasion. anyone else grow up with rags and if so do you think it's a cultural thing? oh my. i adore this one. i love the natural amorphous dining table and interesting chairs paired with the stark white work areas flanked on either side. because i need to spread my work out when i work but always clean up at the end of the day. i would be able to see my work. i dream of such a clean-line bedroom. the finish of the kitchen cabinets is really appealing but i would have picked silver-grey or a bright color. maybe yellow? ew! i have short hair but my roommate does not. not only does her hair clog up the shower and the sink, but also wraps around the rollers in the vacuum cleaner. she actually had the nerve to balk when i asked her to clean them out. anyhow...
