Adding lights under upper cabinets (to light your counters/sink) is super easy. we got some from ikea that just plug in to an outlet, and then have an on/off switch on the cord. just FYI, for the skeptical readers. Renovation for Renters: 10 Ideas for the Kitchen |

I had a really awkward space in my kitchen/hallway in my third floor attic (think eaves) apartment, so I put in low, L-shaped IKEA GORM shelves ( http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/secondary_storage/10898/ ). Since my aesthetic has always been kind of barn/modern, these really worked as utilitarian, open, made from natural materials storage for arts & crafts supplies. And they were incredibly cheap. I suppose a photo would really do this post justice... Budget Basics: Cheap Shelving & Storage Shopper's Guide |

I'm surprised no one responded to this, but "slate" is not a generic term for patio surfacing (at least here in the US). A better word to use would probably have been "paver", and I only point this out because using the word slate could be quite confusing to many people. Slate is a type of rock; where I'm from in upstate NY it is the native stone, and it is INCREDIBLY slippery when wet, and also tends to split unpredictably of it is too thin, and therefore can be dangerous as a patio surfacing. The stone Maxwell used for this patio is a bluestone, which is a type of sandstone sometimes quarried in PA. It has a slightly rougher grain, which gives it a bit of a non-slip quality. Bluestone pavers are a lovely material for a patio surface. How To Build a Quick Outdoor Patio |

This home looks very inviting & cozy - overall very "JP". I live in the neighborhood myself. However, I was dismayed to see the exterior photo of the backyard - this is ostensibly a dirtpatch with a hammock displaying no design direction whatsoever. I think this photo detracts from the cohesiveness of the tour, and should not have been included. Apartment Therapy needs to up its game regarding the quality of the exterior photos it chooses to feature. Apartment Therapy Boston | Kat Jon's Thrifty Dollhouse House Tour |
