I was so glad this question got posted and answered. I'm a pharmacist and in the same way other "on your feet all day" jobs go, you're begging for a lunch or potty break. I learned a long time ago that if I ever attempt to bring hot food, something is going to happen and I'll end up eating it cold anyway. I've never thought that heating pies when I pack them would keep the warm until eating time. And thermos meals would allow me to eat with one hand and continue working with the other. As the winter is approaching and I'll be craving warm meals at work, I'm excited to try the things I've read here!

When we were remodeling the house we bought, I decided on cork floors for my kitchen. And I love it! I didn't have to go with colored cork, mine is actually "cork" colored (because it matched my decor so perfectly). It hides dirt (almost too well sometimes). Good quality cork is cushy and more comfy to stand on than tile or laminate or hardwood. It's pretty hardy too - bounces back from indentations from furniture or high heel shoes. And it goes down in squares so if part does get damaged, it's easy to replace. And I use the same stuff to clean my cork as I do my hardwoods so it simplifies my cleaning methods (and makes it shiny).

I need a landing strip for most of the things that go in and out of the house with us most days. Most of our shoes do well in the closet, but we need a place for the farm boots (cuz they get gross). I've got a mountable rack with 4 3-pronged hooks to hang by our front door for our winter coats. The biggest problem is that the same stuff doesn't go out every time we go out. I have one set of stuff that goes with me to one store and a different set of stuff that goes with me to the 2nd store. Then I have a a set of stuff that goes with us to church and a set of stuff that goes with us to the farm. Right now, I have a hall tree with 4 2-pronged hooks with a wooden bench seat and an end table with a 31-day slotted bill box but they are horribly cluttered.

The most difficult things for me to get rid of are those things that were loaned or "donated" to me when I was in a very "mobile" state in life. I lived in 3 different apartments in 4 years that I knew were temporary when I started thus I did not invest in tons of decor. When I got married, my husband actually had the matching furniture (b/c his parents turned the old dairy barn behind their house into his bachelor pad after high school) but I still did not get rid of the "random" furniture I had in the apartments. Now as we slowly invest in "sets" (i.e matching lamps, matching/color-coordinated towels, matching place settings), there's a part of me that begins to feel guilty for getting rid of those things that were given to me when I was in need - things from my mom, my grandmother, several generous couples at our church. Thus, things are cluttered instead of looking "put together". I have a hodgepodge collection of things that turn out to be duplicates (i.e. I have 3 sets of measuring cups/spoons) and don't add any value to the space.

Yay! I actually know what I'm doing - I use several of those "chores" tips when i clean! Especially listening to music and making "other room" piles (that way if I have to travel through a certain room to take a bathroom break, I can pick up that pile and make a delivery as I go!).

We just replaced our old (broken) fridge with an energy-star fridge, but now the old one is just sitting on the front porch (ugh). We either need to find a repair guy to take it and fix it or find the right way to dispose of "too far gone" appliances (any tips?). Also, got big plans to purge my closets and dressers!

Lots of crisis to motivate me - several small glimmers of hope. I must start by saying that right now we live in a double-wide mobile home, and we know that it's not our permanent dwelling place, but it is temporarily permanent since we are barely into our 3rd year of marriage and I've finally achieved my dream of being a pharmacist and have been at my new job for a whole month now. So, I'd really like this place to feel like a home rather than a temporary holding place for our stuff while we budget our money wisely to be able to improve ourselves, which means my big limitation here is that the budget is $0.

Getting uncluttered is the #1 goal for me (including purging closets and dressers). #2 would be to turn our entry way/living room into a functional yet creativity-inspiring office (double-wides are only so wide but very long and our original office space is so far away from the rest of our "living space", and in the south we have a den which is where we entertain guests and have the TV and our normal living activities). Lastly, I am very inspired by our new comforter set http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/EnlargeProduct.asp?SKU=114217&ZMPHT=380/83067114217CZ.JPG and would love to get this cozy, snuggled-in feel throughout the rest of our house.
