I have a dualit I picked up at the thrift store for $10...new in the box! We love it and after 2 years I understand why they're so expensive. They work great, are bomb-proof and the one we have also is good on sandwiches, repairable & they really do keep your toast warm once the timer ends I would buy one if I was looking for a toaster but I think I'll have this one forever. I just picked up another one to sell that is in like new condition but is gently used. If someone is interested reply to me and I'll let it go for $99 here in Chicago. 4 slice, narrower slots, chrome & black...just to make myself clear...I love this stupid toaster.

Looks like a Unimog to me. They are an ultra-SUV or survival vehicle that can be built out in custom configurations. Looking at it I don't think it is one of that but there are a few different manufacturers of this type of vehicle.

Actually some of Ikea's cabinets are coming from some of the same manufacturing facilities as some of the Italian or German high end cabinetry lines.

I'm soooooo jealous! That camper looks great...and there are a million, skillion ideas that jump to mind. The obvious, paint, new hardware if possible, new upholstery, lighting is open to your imagination! You can even sand/prime and paint the enamel on the appliances with a rust-o-leum high heat paint to give it a new color. New curtains, if you need to do the floor I think the vinyl plank flooring tile that looks like hardwood would look great and it interlocks so it is waterproof/resistant and I've seen that plank installed as baseboard also and a bead of clear silicone caulk applied at the meetup of the floor and the baseboard. Good luck I think a look through an Ikea catalog will give you most of your ideas. Also go to some of the Airstream makeover sites online and you'll be amazed at what people have done with cosmetic only changes. Someday my wife and I will have one of these little beauties! Someday.

I would worry about gunk (water, grit, etc...) falling into the insoles of the shoes on the the bottom shelf from the soles of the shoes placed on top. I like the look but I would pass on these. I bought thriftstore bookshelves w/ glass paneled doors & then I took some copper sheet I had laying around and made liner trays with a small lip to the shelf dimensions. Ideally we remove a shelf for boot storage on the bottom in the winter....depends on how shoe "fetishy" we feel! I drilled ventilation holes in the back panel and we use the top for hat gloves etc... our coat rack was right next to it.. It can be a pain emptying the shelf pans of water when it's really mucky out. We are moving so it's currently in storage...and I don't know if the setup will work wherever we go next. That's just for shoes at the door....in the closet we some shoe shelves from Target or someplace like that.

Forgive me but I've been to Wow & Zen and it didn't inspire my trust...and just because it's in a Bucktown/Wicker Park/Lincoln Park etc... gallery, boutique or shop doesn't make it any more authentic. After living in Asia for almost 5 years I can say this: Take any "antique" Asian home or art purchase here in the USA with a grain of salt....unless you're buying it from someone you know and trust or who can show you some provenance...in which case I hope you're not buying a stolen artifact! Pieces like this "antique" panel are being hand carved by the thousands on a weekly basis. I hate to say this but technically the owner was correct in their description...the panels were "hand carved" (by a village of artisans mass producing "antiques") and in implying that they "were a one of a kind" (they are because they are not machine made) and maybe, just maybe they were "antique" (or at least the source hardwood may have been) but it seems that someone was being "truthy".

Why not buy the Ikea recycle bins? Starting at around $12 a bin depending on the size they have served us well in our home and business.

Aggie927,

I'm sorry for the late reply...I need to double check with my friend on that and I'll post it later this week.

Costco has a ton of great stuff it just takes some searching on the website to find it....it also comes and goes and what you see today might not be available tomorrow in the less than average tastes.

I have helped more than 1 client get into the right loft. Give me a call and I would be happy to talk a bit about the Chicago loft & real estate market and answer some questions and perhaps "interview" for the position!

Whichever direction you go...good luck.

I'd love to see it redone in something up-to-date...but I don't know how that pattern will look with all that pleating. I would use a very bold solid and stain the legs a darker color. We took a chance on some antique French furniture (with no pleated areas) that we have and it all turned out great in both a modern-ish pattern on the chairs(shown at the link) and a solid deep dark blue for the loveseat and then we had small accent pillows done with both fabrics. Here's a link to a picture of the chair http://salonsocachicago.com/space.html#

Good luck.

We've done that and I liked it....after I trained myself not to smack my shins on it! Seriously it was like a nice little nightstand area and I slept on against the wall in that bedroom configuration so it was all I was getting and I took it.

I bought a bottle cutter kit by Ronco at the thrift store. It is the the same kit from the cheesy commercials I would see on TV in the 70's and while it worked "alright" it definitely inspired me to get a better kit and try out some more projects come spring.

I failed to mention we used it directly on the ceramic tile. Primed first then sprayed. I didn't know if it would work but I see this being a nice new way to make a quick-change in a kitchen or bath redo on a tight budget.

Unless you're super committed to this project go with the Rust-Oleum. I just used some to actually paint an accent border in an all white bath and it came out great.
