I've ditched cable and desktop computers, but I'm hanging onto my camera and my flash drive. My cellphone takes crappy pictures, and with an Eyefi card, my camera is pretty capable. Hey New York Times, I'm Not Throwing Away My Camera |

If you live in a small house, check with an HVAC technician. I live in a small house with a big heater, and I have the minimum number of vents for my furnace / AC. This summer my AC kept freezing up because some of the vents were covered. Is it OK to Close Off Heat & Air Vents in Unused Rooms? |

I highly recommend the Schlage keypad deadbolt too. It's simple and pretty affordable. I have them on my front and back doors, and it's so convenient. No Keys: Digital Door Locks |

I have pea gravel in a large chunk of my backyard and have been pretty happy with it. I have flagstones in the area closest to my house, and most of stray gravel ends up there. It's easiest enough to sweep it up every few weeks. Gravel Landscapes |

I have an LG one, and I like it. It takes up a fraction of the space of my old stackable unit. Recommendations for a Good Washer Ventless Dryer Combo? Good Questions |

I have Cuisinart combo unit. It has a blender and food processor attachment, but just one bottom motor piece. I find that I use the food processor all the time in the summer for making pesto and hummus, but I hardly ever use the blender. It's still nice to have both. Each to his or her own, but wouldn't you unplug your fridge before putting clothes in it? The lights are still on in both of those fridges. Clothes in the Crisper: Kitchens as Closets New York Post | Apartment Therapy New York |

I have an LG model too, although it was a lot more than the washer/dryers listed above. Mine has a line that indicates how full it can be for drying, and I usually just do loads that size so I can leave them in for drying. I've had a tankless water heater for a year now, and I love it. The hot water does take a bit longer to get to the tap than with the tank heater, but it's nice to have an unlimited supply. My gas bill is also a bit lower. My main reason for splurging on the tankless though had to do with space. I live in 720 sf house, and that 20 cubic feet or so is really nice to have. I have an Asus netbook for my everyday home use, and it's been great. I upgraded the RAM and run all the programs that I ran on my old computer on it. The only limitation is the screen size, but I can hook it up to a larger monitor if I need to. On the plus size, it's great for traveling. I have a showerhead by Evolve with this technology built into it, and it's great if you have a traditional water heater. Unfortunately, I upgraded to a tankless model a few months ago, and it doesn't let enough water through to keep the tankless water heater running. I've lived in Salt Lake City for nearly six years now. It was supposed to be temporary, but it has grown on me. I have a great circle of friends, bought an inexpensive house close to downtown, bike everywhere including to work, and have access to some of the best outdoor recreational areas anywhere. You won't make as much and the politics are crazy, but it's definitely got it's good sides. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | Good Questions: Which City to Move To? |

I second the stovetop espresso maker. They are inexpensive, easy-to-use, and they won't be another big appliance sitting on your counter. One of my neighbors used to have a T@B trailer parked in front of their house, and I always felt a pang of jealousy when I'd drive or bike by it. I really, really want one too. Apartment Therapy DC | Prefab and Portable Living Best of 2008 |
