Does anyone have a source for the bedspread/comforter in Amy's attic bedroom?

I'll be Home for Christmas: Favorite Holiday Houses

This tour made me miss my Richmond row house very much, especially the shot of the backyard. But speaking of cool and comfortable in the summer? This is Virginia! I love the chandeliers, but I would die at night without a ceiling fan over my bed. That said, it is so beautiful, so tasteful. I want to go home and immediately remove at least ten things from each room!

If I never hear the term "Granny's room" again I will be most happy! I am so tired of watching House Hunters and hearing twenty-somethings complain, "This looks like my grandmother's house." What exactly is that, anyway? Your grandmother could very well live in one of those mid-century modern homes you are so crazy for! Oh, I guess I should walk into Monticello and gasp,"This looks like where my great, great, great, great, great grandmother lives!"

I would like an answer to the question about hanging from picture molding as well. I saw a formula in a magazine once about how long to make the wire, string or filament, made a copy and then lost it in all of my clutter. Does anyone out there know? The molding is hung, but not many pictures because most of the walls are brick!

After my stepfather died, I had a lot of medications to dispose of, so I asked our local pharmacist. He said the same thing as the delightful, well-informed guy on the video. I put mine in an empty milk carton along with some kitty litter. That way they were contained; and if someone did happen to pull it out of the garbage, no harm done.

Here in the South, flowers were always a natuaral part of our home. When we visited friends and family especially my grandmother, we always took a walk around the yard and admired the blooms. My mother always had beautiful flowers in the yard and brought them in seasonally. Even today many many years later, the smell of daffodills conjures up a memory and takes me right back home.

Day 12: Buy Flowers
The 20/20 Home Cure

I am allergic to a lot of flowers, hava a cat and a brown thumb! I feel fortunate that I have one potted plant(gift) that refuses to die after four years or so, but I like the idea of the herbs. I just don't know where to put them in the kitchen. Also my empty display places have been taken up by Halloween pumpkins. I think I will make those count!

Day 2: Buy Fresh Flowers
The 20/20 Home Cure

I like this twenty minute thing a lot! I got home a little late last night, but I did the kitchen, wiping off counters and windowsills, the top of the stove, but mainly did the floors by sweeping and then mopping with Murphy's Oil Soap. I even cleaned the kitty's mat under the food and water bowls. I know that it needs a deeper cleaning, but this is good for now.

My challenge is that I will be out of town for the weekend and have company coming from out of town after that, but I am going to try and consolidate and press forward!

Day 1: Clean One Room
The 20/20 Home Cure

I am here to say that Maxwell sure is cute! He is the Mister Rogers of home management and makes me think I can do it, almost. I have loved reading about the cure, but so far I have not totally embraced it. I am looking forward to maybe hearing more about the "flow" thing and furniture arrangement. I can't quite wrap my head around that. If we can't have a Maxwell show, this is the next best thing. Dust on!

What I would really like to see is a show hosted by Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan putting the information in his books and apartmenttherapy site to work. I would gladly volunteer to have him come and help me de-clutter and arrange the furniture. I would like to see programs with more step by step features with practical advice. For example, have one episode just on furniture arrangement. Take several examples and show and explain why. Explain in more detail the "bowling alley" and "movie theater" concepts. Another could be on storage solutions. I loved the bits he did on that show I can't remember the name of. That, I believe, could be expanded to make his own show!

I don't know if it is a warm gray or a cool gray, but I painted my dining room with Benjamin Moore's Silver Fox and have not regretted it once. The living room and hall went one shade lighter on the color card. This is in a condo with oak floors.

Warm Oak Floors with Cool Gray Walls?
Good Questions

Ah, pinpoints in time! I love them! Sometimes when I am home in the middle of the day, which is not often, I love seeing how the sunlight falls against the hardwood floor in the hallway or feel the breeze as it lifts the curtains in the bedroom. Noticing simple things in detail that often go unnoticed in the course of a busy day is a great way to just be.

When I had first moved into my small condo and was depressed, a friend gave me a picture that he had taken of the kitchen window that looks out on the brick wall of the next building. We had just hung a stained glass moon and placed a plant and a pig cutting board there. This photogragh was just such a lovely composition, it gave me hope; and I have it hanging on the wall of my cubicle at work.

Compositons like these are what keep me coming back to Apartment Therapy!

I am always amazed at what upsets people. In the town where I live, people wanted to put fig leaves over certain parts of statues in the front of a Greek restaurant!

People seem to get more upset over their children seeing nudity on the screen than violence.

I have friends who live in a clothing optional community. At first I thought that I could never visit them there. Now, I wish I had grown up in such an open environment! Why have hangups over something that is quite natural? Art? We just make sure to put a towel down before sitting on the furniture!

All I could think of while looking at this site was that it's a good thing it is a rental. Otherwise, someone with this taste would have moved in and just had to take out some of the light fixtures, and they would be writing in to AT to see if they should paint the woodwork and modernize the fireplace.

I am so happy that all of that is intact with the marvelous views! If I lived there I would feel so fortunate and would probably decorate it in a completely different way, but that's what makes the world go around!
