I like the wooden trunks and artwork. Not sure about the black door behind the TV, it darkens the room a lot. Also, the wall space between the 2 bookshelves is way too cluttered. Nice space, though, well done.

I think it's lacking something too - maybe more colour? Too much black, I think, especially for a home with 2 small kids.

Each colour is beautiful, I'm not entirely sure about them all working together in such a small space, but I applaud your boldness! Very refreshing and uplifting.

Not sure about the table lamp shades, but everything else works really well together. Unusual but soothing and beautiful.

Firstly, what is this room - a bedroom? A reading room? ...
Secondly, the colour is pretty but I think it makes the small room feel even smaller and a bit claustrophobic.
Thirdly, it's waaaaaay too magazine-y and doesn't look like it's lived in at all, which is a shame.

Amazing timing, I'm just in the middle of ordering a wood stove myself!! Actually, it's multifuel so can burn wood and smokeless coal (I live in London so it has to be a special smokeless stove - no idea how it works).

Really looking forward to it as it's a) really cosy, b) cheaper and more reliable than gas, c) more efficient than open wood fire. Winner all round.

My husband removed the horrible ornamental fake gas fireplace that was there when we moved in and knocked the fireplace through properly in preparation for the stove - I'll send in photos when it's finished :)

Gorgeous. How do you not bang the front door against the TV unit behind it??

We have white laminate - it looks beautiful but shows up all dust and hair (I have long brown hair...) - would prefer a light brown.

Gorgeous kitchen - very homely with the runner and bookcase, and beautiful floor. I'm in love with your bathroom too... Great job!

I think it's very original and refreshing. Personally, I don't dig the "midcentury" that most AT posts centre around, but I guess that's because I'm not from the USA. It's nice to see something different.

If you can prove that the mold has affected your health, you should get the landlord to install an opening window or at least a vent. Or get him to pay for your bleach bill!

What about buying a dehumidifier and leaving it on after you shower or overnight? That should remove all the water in the air and make it easier for you to keep the mold at bay.

Let us know if you defeat it.

Yes it does look a bit prisony!!

As the floor space is so tiny, I reckon you can get away with buying a large and beautiful bath mat that covers up the horrible floor tiles as much as possible and makes a statement. You could try buying it in the same tone of colour as the floor directly outside your bathroom to give it a more seamless look: it will help make it feel part of the rest of the house and hopefully it won't feel so small.

If you want to paint the medecine cabinet, I would definitely go for colour, otherwise it would be too white!

Good luck and please post after pics!

Advice for This Bare Rental Bathroom? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy New York

Beautiful pics, but I've got 2 questions:

1) I thought that a pedestal sink had one large "foot", i.e. so it looks like the sink is on a pedestal. So the drop-in sinks on a surface with legs (photos 3, 7 and 9), are they pedestal sinks too?

and

2) How can a pedestal sink save more space than a wall-mounted, non-pedestal sink that leaves space free underneath it? I can't really get my head around that....!

A bit of greenery would soften the look, especially plants with large rounded leaves as opposed to anything spiky.

And some flowy curtains would be great when the balcony door/windows are open in the warmer months :o)
