I always get great furniture oddly free from the street - from the black cafe chairs that were left out by a closing San Francisco cafe to the little side tables that decorate my patio. All Free! The best 2nd hand purchase was 12 midcentury modern wood Gunlocke chairs for $5 each - my company was getting rid of them.

I am a candleholic! I love high-quality candles but they can get very pricey fast! I burn them every day which means I'm always on the lookout for local sales. The scent quality and the long-burn is why I opt for high-end brands. Some times you can get the display samples on clearance at boutiques. Last weekend I bought three Seda-France candles (Iceland Poppy and Provence (2)) for $7.00 each in Pasadena. Typically they run no less than $28-$32 each. I don't mind taking a chance on quality vanilla, musky, herbal or woodsy scents, especially those on sale.

I didn't go this weekend but I've seen most of the products listed. I like the Eco-Me Kits and received it as a gift last year. It has become my primary home cleaning set and I can get every thing needed (baking powder, vinegar, olive oil) at the dollar store.

Two years ago, I decided to make our bedroom a peace zone. I eliminated every electronic in the room. Nothing plugs into a wall - with the exception of the iPhone now and then as an early morning alarm. The room and the stuff in it is natural fabrics cleaned with non-toxic, homemade cleaners. Heavy conversations, laptops, shoes, dog toys and food are not allowed in the room. In fact, after we arise for the day and have straightened up we pretty much leave it alone for the entire day and only return to it to go to bed at night. The changes make it the cleanest and quietest rooms in the house and the best place to renew my energy for the next day.

For the first 1/2 of my life, I lived on number streets (3rd Street, 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue) and many of my family still lives at that location and/or on other numbered streets. When I was in a position to choose my own housing, I stayed as far away from numbered streets as possible: Columbia, Echo Park Avenue, Mariposa...). What really has been interesting has been analyzing the address number or the apartment numbers that I've had: 307 is a number that I have been in sync with since college and it seems to follow me whereever I go.

It's funny. I'm the only one in the family not allowed to cut and serve cake and pie because I always manage the pastry. This product speaks to me.

This summer I received the Foreman BBQ grill (the circular one with a stand) as a gift and while it generally does the job, it has not proven to be the best for indoor cooking since it is overlarge. Storage is also a huge issue. This little broiler looks to be a better tool.

As much as I love visiting my friends with more affordable and larger living spaces, I absolutely detest the fact that they live in far remote corners of the city where there is nothing interesting around them and they become isolated in their units. So I would choose the neighborhood over space. However, this is about co-habitation. Personally, I would move with my partner to a new (and neutral) unit that would be a compromise of location, space, amenities and $$. I recently did this (Angelino Heights - still Echo Park but also near Downtown!) and we are all the more happier for it.
