Do you guys think that the oven should be unplugged, while following the baking soda + vinegar method? I haven't (ever, gulp...and gross) cleaned an oven before and am a bit nervous about it...

I have similarly colored cabinets in my bathroom and kitchen...I painted both bath and kitchen a really deep, navy blue with an eggshell finish. Both have windows so it doesn't look overly dark. It looks awesome.

Best get-well-soon soups: matzo ball soup, pho and a warm Indian yogurt soup called "kadhi" (filled with ginger, cloves and green chillies).

I like roasting them in parchment with some red onion, vermouth, garlic and fresh herbs. You could throw in some potato, as well as a teensie amount of butter. Really light + fresh tasting. Turnip curry is really nice, too, with some goat or chicken.

Crunchy peanut butter and sriracha on whole wheat. I sometimes substitute Indian lime pickle for the sriracha. Chomp! And sweat.

I love Swedish + Finnish food. Since returning from there last summer, I've been making Swedish pancakes, Karelian pies and gravlax about once every fortnight. Delicious. And one of the most memorable meals I've had was in a restaurant in Stockholm, where I had the tastiest, most delicate dilled potatoes + salmon.

Huh, I never keep the natural stuff in the fridge...maybe because we go through it so quickly that it never has a chance to go rancid. And like Anita83 says above, we buy about 1/2 lb at a time.

My Cuisinart smartstick! It's an immersion blender that also has a whisk and mini-food processor attachment. I was gifted the first one ~6 years ago, and used it to it's sad demise about a year ago, when I bought the exact same model again. It gets used (any one of the three attachments) every single day.

@Stream13: I felt the same way about the Dark Tower series! I just loved Frank Muller's narration and was so sad to hear about his death. Although George Guidall was great, too, the Gunslinger just didn't sound as awesome...

For those who enjoyed Davina Porter's narration of Outlander and Frank Muller's narration of the Dark Tower series (one of my favorites), you MUST listen to Roy Dotrice narrating George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series of books. I can't believe they're not on here yet! Not only is the plot intriguing and immerses you in Westeros, Roy Dotrice is a wonderful voice actor. Go download it now!!

I love spicy food at ANY time. It's especially good for me when I'm hungover, have a cold or any illness, days I feel blue or blah...one of my fave cures for the sniffles is a piece of bread (preferably the white, spongy supermarket stuff) smeared on one side with tomato ketchup, the other side slathered with sriracha: fold in half and snarf down. Aaaah...the world looks like a friendlier place. Also: peanut butter (crunchy) and Indian lime pickle.

I do exactly what Maureen.Milwaukee suggested: cook the egg separately (I only add a sprinkle of salt and a few drops of water) then slide off the pan and allow to cool; then, I roll it up and cut the "egg-roll" into strips which then get put into the final dish, just before serving/plating.

Can't seem to figure out how to make the perfect pizza crust. No matter what I try (pizza stone, flour, rising time, etc) I can't seem to get that crust to be thin and crispy.

I love sweets, and I indulge in a bite of something sweet whenever I feel like it... but only a bite. And I try to make sure it's made with sugar/agave/maple syrup/honey, etc., not "synthetic" sweeteners. But every now and then the urge for a Diet Coke hits, and nothing can replace that! So I indulge, probably 2-3 cans of Diet Coke per month. And I don't worry about it.

Definitely water chestnuts. In India, they're chucked into a slow burning wood-fire and roasted until the outside blackens. Then you pop 'em open by squeezing and eat the inside: it's soft and smoky and absolutely delicious.

My biggest food discovery this year: tom yum-flavored dried seaweed sold in garishly colored packets, frangipane in tarts and red drum fish.

And the clementine cake mentioned further up (Nigella Lawson's recipe) I make it every year around this time. It is really delicious!
