I think using vitamins to help with particular ills just as you would use any drugstore medicine is a good thing versus the multivitamin route. I take wellness formula vitamins whenever i feel sick. Lysine pills for cold sores and cranberry pills when i feel a UTI coming on (possible overshare. sorry). I think it helps!

one time, i put some really good beef broth, shimeji mushrooms, some light chicken sausage and some canned diced tomatoes in the microwave and cooked it for a while. poured it on pasta. it was really good and relatively low in fat. it was kind of a leftovers pasta.

people that are insulting ramen need to hold off their insults until they've tried japanese, korean and chinese brands of the ramen...the kind that they only sell in the ethnic supermarkets. it doesn't even compare to the stuff you see everywhere. yes, it might be a bit bad for you but it's so so so good.

vivetique is also an insanely shady company. I went to their "showroom" to check out their mattresses and couldn't believe the state it was in. Hard to imagine someplace so grimy looking would take a lot of care in making sure their mattresses follow a certain standard of "eco-ness". I ended up buying my mattress elsewhere but placed an order for a wool duvet, that basically NEVER CAME (4 weeks moved to 6 to 8 etc etc). i made them refund my money but still lost some deposit $ (i think this may have been my vendor's fault) but either way, i would never recommend this company.

i keep a little box for these type of gifts. I'm a big regifter...no shame in that. it's just recycling. works well for those birthday parties that you get invited to but don't know the person well enough but don't want to arrive empty handed.

you can also use shredded paper as ribbon and to make a pretty cool "bow". I make a shredded paper snowball, squish it tight (not too tight), then tape an "X" on the bottom of the ball to hold most of the paper together. Then attach a loop (or double sided tape) to stick it on the package. The bits and pieces come loose so it looks more festive. It looks really great w butcher paper and even betten when you have multicolored paper shreds.

black beans. some onions and garlic sauteed with some cumin, oregano, cayenne. dump the can of beans (everything no draining) and let it simmer until not soupy but beany. SO GOOD. by itself, in burritos, with rice.

yum.

i also am a bleach head. green cleaners (homemade or otherwise) just can't get nasty dark moldy spots out of tile. it needs to kill the mold.

the fruit isn't overripe at the farmers market but you're meant to eat it soon after purchase. Leaving things for a week on your counter is too long. Honestly, i'd prefer fruit that tastes like fruit than not. i don't buy as much as i used to and frequent the farmers markets more instead.

the thing about dumpster diving is that....although it may look perfectly fine. you don't really know what happened to it. there may be a non-superficial reason that it was thrown away.

also, i had a friend that dumpster dived and he got SCABIES. so that killed it for me.

Any mushrooms you can get at the farmers market....like oyster mushrooms or even fancier chanterelles (when you can find them) cook up really fast (like 2 minutes) with a drop of oil, some garlic, mushrooms with a bit of broth (or water). Throw this on brown rice, salad, pasta, eggs. Amazing and totally filling.

i have to admit, i also eat ALOT of frozen foods but stick with Amy's and various trader joe's creations.

If you notice the toilet running for a long time, then it's an old toilet. when i moved into my apt, i swear the toilet took 5 whole minutes to refill. now i keep a 2 liter soda bottle in the tank and it save some water. and, as gross as it may be, i try not to flush the toilet unless "necessary".

boxsprings are good for the longevity of your mattress. platform bed/ no boxspring may be better for your back/possibly feel better depending on preference but it's not going to help the mattress because it doesn't cushion the pressure. less bounce back.

although it's horrible to the environment and your hands, the magic eraser works really well. Although, takes forever. Also, a paste made from baking soda and bleach left on for a bit then vigorously scrubbed works too. when i moved into my apt, i had to do a combination of both numerous times. it was filthy.
