I love the living room--those plaid panels, the olive (or is it brown?) sofa, and the zigzag pillows are just great together. Can't wait to see it after the cure!

I like how the "before" image was (intentionally or coincidentally) made more gross by all the trash on the countertop.

Is it that big of a deal to be isolated to certain spots where you can use your phone? I remember when phones were connected to, you know, the wall.

Not saying I want to go back to the good old days, but some perspective never hurts. Some providers work better in certain areas, some phones work better than others, and coverage is continuously improving. It wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me unless the entire place got no coverage at all, since my mobile phone is my only phone.

I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, curry, and peanut butter. Barking dogs, loud stereos, and people who stomp when they walk bother me. But as long as I'm living in multi-unit buildings, it's something I have to deal with. Your neighbors should deal with it too, or get an isolated house out in the 'burbs.

Just because they can smell it does not make it a health hazard. It's a minor inconvenience at worst.

I forgot to mention, one plus side of the Chibi case is that the top screws on, so no need to worry about it coming off if it falls into the bottom of my bag and forget about it for a few days. The needles are secure.

I use a Chibi, a little green and white plastic tube. I got it at a yarn shop filled with darning needles, but have edited and supplemented the needle collection over the years. It's a neat little thing, but not nearly as cute as that wooden case.

This is one of my favorite color combinations--red and (any kind of) light blue. I especially love the touches of green!

I agree with the above comment, this collection of pieces could have been an absolute disaster. After staring at it for a while, I could pick out certain details and pieces that I don't personally love, but all together it's perfect. I wouldn't change anything. This room is certainly not what I would have come up with for my own space, but I still feel like I could just step into the photo and live there. It's so colorful, yet harmonious, balanced, and lovely. Gorgeous! Top of the list for me, so far.

Way to represent my hometown! I love to see the golden age of St. Louis preserved in homes like this. It makes me a bit homesick. I miss this great city, and while it doesn't have the cool factor as NY or Chicago, I would move back there over any other city, given the choice.

Too fancy for my taste, but I "get" it.

Luckily a lot of old homes and buildings, especially on the south side, still stand but they're not cared for like this. They've been painted over, run down, neglected, chopped up into 2 or 4-family flats. Some have been restored, but so few have been maintained throughout their life like this. Only 3 owners! It's refreshing and exciting to see one that is so well preserved and still lived in. St. Louis is a beautiful old city that's suffered a long decline, but I believe it's experiencing a bit of a revival now. I hope it grows and continues.

Laptop lunches.

It's flat and wide, maybe the size of a fat textbook. The divided containers inside are removable/re-arrangeable, so it suits all different kinds of food. It doesn't seal tightly for wet foods, though.

I biked/walked to work and school for years with this lunchbox. It's perfect for inside a bag or backpack.

South Grand is my favorite place in the entire St. Louis area! i miss living in that neighborhood. it has a gorgeous park, the best farmer's market in the area, Jay International, a local grocery store, tons of international restaurants, and a handful of specialty shops, all within walking distance.

I use the Escali, and my mom uses the stainless steel Salter. Both are fabulous little scales, and I especially love the price on my Escali!

bkk, that is part of the traditional meaning of prayer flags. they are meant to be hung outside, where the blessings can be carried by the wind. they are made with unfinished fabric edges, and the fading and tattering is a symbol of the prayers being spread about, and of the ephemeral nature of life and material things.
