Incredible use of space; an illusion of size, potential for multiple uses, color selections and that stunning hallway vignette all make me wish I had such an innate design sense.

I live in the LA area, but that is NOT why I'm praising this entry and bemoaning that it's not a finalist.

Incredible use of space and the chic vibe of the place makes me once again wish I could paint my floors white. It's almost 100 today, and I'll bet it's pretty cool in this space. Lovely selection of color -- yeah, white and black are colors -- and sense of just what does make a space really memorable.

I've written twice about the dearth of small and cool selections for finalists again this year.

When I consider a space I look for selection of materials, accents, placement and is it, frankly, magazine ready. None of this year's crop fits that.

However, when I see an apartment like this one, I have to praise it's use of art and the aforementioned qualities. Stunning.

THIS apartment, Disappearing Bed and Paul's lovely apartment make this year's crop of finalists look downright depressing.

Is anyone incredulous again this year? None of the selections are cool. Kitteh has a point.

There are clearly other nominees whose design sense and chic use of space and materials eclipse this year's selections.

Didn't vote last year for the same version. Pathetic. And no, I'm not speaking of minimalism. Only one of my "how could this one not win" choices is in any way minimalistic. It's just that there are a couple that are drop dead current, bright, chic and very well done compared to this year's finalists.

This is the best evidence yet of just because you can, don't.

Extremely well done. You'd never guess it was that small. It shows style, but with restraint.

If you really want a stunning display, go for a plexi box with space on the sides, etc., so as to make it a real eye-catching piece.

I did that with Thai baby carriers.

Although not my particular taste, it is thrifty done with CLASS!

On the color scheme being locked in...man, it would so easy to radically change the color scheme with new colored pillows, throw, etc. and have a whole new look. That's how well this is done.

Very well done. Elegant.

My only difference is in the choice of a more weighted chair in the dining room area, like an S chair. It just has no presence and overuses the chair type. But, again, very, very nice. It's hard to find anything here that isn't publishable right now!

And I think a large poster, properly framed, would look one heck of a lot better than badly matched undersized pieces of art. Are you going for cool or drool?

One Living Room Corner — Arranged Two Different Ways

The first is a far better design solution. It's more elegant as well.

The second one sticks a bad chair choice compared to the first, and the desk instead of the side piece makes it look like it's a cheap apartment close to campus, as in way to cluttered...I shouldn't give away this desk granny gave me. Cmon.

This shelving is major level bad. "Hey, lets save every single piece of ephemeral junk we've had since we were five!"

It's just very badly designed, overtly obvious, inelegant and wrong.

Bella! White is a personality choice! Were the floors painted or did you just go for it. I love it.
I'd probably even get rid of the bed and do just a couch/sleep piece. But your choices are spot on.
And the art is well suited for this space.

Is Tuesday good for you?

Seriously, very well done. Don't touch a thing. And when will people realize, or educate themselves, that simplicity and/or minimalism IS a style. I'd love to see what they've done with the rest of the spaces.

What Isn't Allowed In Your Bedroom?

First, the easel part isn't that expensive. Second, the whole point of having it mounted that way is an artistic statement, as well as a practical one.

It can be moved. If the designer wanted it hung or in "the corner", then there it would be, uninspired and hackneyed in all its technical glory.

As an artist, this is art, and you do have control over the remote after all.
