You've pretty much already answered your own problem - you want to " bring some color in to the living room using pillows, rugs, artwork, accessories etc." so go do that!

Just go buy things!

If you love it, it'll work.

I have the same desk & bookcase setup, but ehhhhh, I could not stand having my back to the door...

That aside, there are way too many cords going on for my taste. Kudos to him if he can work in the space; I couldn't!

I prefer the TV to be eye level when I'm lounging on my sofa.

Sit on your sofa in your usual way, and stare straight ahead in the direction of where your TV is. Have a friend mark on the wall where your eye lands. The TV should be in that area. Cut the legs of your table accordingly.

Looking in, not so bad. Being in that yellow bathroom? Terrible. Especially if you're going to try to put on makeup...

I do love the color palette; too bad it's a computer rendering.

I've been doing that lately; I just wish I'd taken MORE photos along the way! I'll see something in a photo, off in the corner, that I've gotten rid of, and I'll wish that I had an up-close/better photo of it.

Side note, there are five links in this post that only go to two sites...

The only option you have, if you can't move elsewhere in the home, is to clean up after yourself. You either have to organize as you go along - get a hanging file system, plastic containers, drawers, anything - or YOU will have to pick up before guests arrive.

I used to be a nomad in our home - my "office" was first combined in my boyfriend's "office" (I use the quotes only because they're workspaces, but it's not like it's a cubicle that we do work-at-home type stuff); after that didn't work out, all my stuff ended up in the living room. It was unsightly, and always in the way when people came over. Eventually, I had to gut the other bedroom and move in there. Now, he has his room, I have mine, and we have a living room. It's the only thing that works for us.

I don't find any of those spaces beautiful. The last isn't even a "space" - just a shot of the TV and its decor. Just because the room is full of Ikea furniture, doesn't mean it's beautiful.

The idea never even occurred to me... Probably because there is a sense of wrong in it.

I actually just bought this book for myself a couple weeks ago... didn't even think that I was doing it for my own subliminal spring cleaning needs!

I was using just a black coffee mug up until yesterday. I just went back to an actual toothbrush holder - I got tired of them touching each other.

I would've hard a terribly hard time working with that layout! But you guys have done a WONDERFUL job - it looks fantastic in every square inch ('cept for that "embarrassing bath" that was not shown ;])!

I once set up my "studio" room the same way - bed on the back wall, dresser to its right, sofa table as a divider, and then my sofa to create the "living" space. The way I had set it up though really hindered the flow of the room and I hated it...

I like the idea of the "free shopping spree." I always feel good when I find a decorative piece that I stashed away.

While I see the point, I don't quite agree with the "get it outta here as quickly as possible" notion. Just because you weren't "enlightened" before your purchase doesn't negate the fact that you bought the product in the first place. There will be a transition from chemicals to green, but whether you do it today or after your old stuff is gone doesn't make the old stuff no longer exist.

What does the facility DO with the stuff you donate? I've seen a lot of post advocating the "safe" disposal of these suddenly-misfit cleaners, but I never see anything about what happens afterwards. So then, are you sure this is the green way to go?
