I've flown alone with my 3 year old son and infant daughter and the best thing I learned was to bring the car seat for the older child. I think by having him sit in the car seat and not the big plane seat made it more familiar and comfortable for him. He also knows that when he's in that seat he's not really supposed to be getting up and moving and and going crazy, just like he's not supposed to do when he's riding in the car.

It is a gigantic pain trying to install one of those things while holding a baby, but a baby carrier makes it easier and you can always ask a flight attendant for help.

My daughter is also formula fed and I find it easier to buy the packets of formula instead of just bringing a can or something like it. It's easier to carry in your bag and making the bottle is a breeze even with a wiggling kid in your arms.

Also, fly at night. My flights have always been over 5 hours long and eventually they've always nodded off.

As a New Yorker, I'm a little disappointed. But I think the project is awesome.

With my son, we used a mini crib and it was great. He just turned two in April and we switched him over to a toddler bed this month. He never ran out of room even though he's always been a tall guy. We have the exact one pictured in the post (I think) and I love it. The stationary sides are awesome and moving the base up and down according to your needs is super easy. When my son was first born until about 6 months, we just moved the mini crib to our bedroom with us instead of having a separate bassinet or co-sleeper or any other fan-dangled thing that's out there.
We're now expecting our second in September and plan on using the mini crib again, probably for just as long as the first time.
We've also moved a few times since my son was born (4 times in 2 years and again in a couple months) and having a smaller crib makes it easier all around and I don't find myself worrying about having enough room in the bedroom in our new place.

I feel like I'm at the same level of organization I was at before having my son. I'm the type of person who may not have everything in its own place but I still know where it is, I always have been. Our son's things have kind of meshed in with our things and so the new additions weren't so hard. I'm guessing, however, when my son and other child (one on the way) gets a little bit older and they become more and more their own persons I will really have to organize things in a way more accessible to them.

I find it easiest to brush my 2 year old's teeth when he's in the bath. Maybe he's just in the cleaning mood, but it's a breeze.

In the morning, when he's not in the tub, well, that's a different story...

I'm partial to Blick art stores.
It was right down the street from my college.
And totally awesome.

I just put this down as one of the things I'm going to buy my husband. He loves this kind of stuff.

But so do I.

Last year around Christmas my son was 8 months, crawling like a pro, and ga-ga for the real Christmas tree we decided to get. We did buy/make unbreakable ornaments which were great, but the real challenge was trying to stop him from putting any of the tree or needles in his mouth. By the end of the first week though we solved that problem by putting things on the tree with in his reach that he could put in his mouth-simple plastic teething rings, toys on ribbon, things of that nature. It worked until we took the tree down and I only to say "no" a few times until he got the hang of what was okay to put in his mouth.

I first saw these around Harvard- first in housing then in all of the other buildings. Now they're popping up all over Cambridge.

A few months ago I saw these same exact "blocks" in Tinker Toys, the coolest most awesome toy store found in Woodstock, NY. Unfortunately, my son was only 3 months at the time so I decided against buying them but since then have moved to Cambridge, MA and have secretly been longing for them since we bought my son another, more conventional block set.

Now, however, I can finally come to me instead of waiting to go back to NY.

Score!
