So clever and charming! I especially love the use of color. I don't know how anyone couldn't see the potential of an apartment with such a gorgeous fireplace and good bones, so good for you for ignoring the naysayers!

I grew up in southern California and in the 80s, everyone said "coke" for soda. When I was in my late teens I started saying Soda and still do. I live in Chicago now and everyone says Pop.

I need to quit it for a while for health reasons and even though I don't drink a lot of it, it is REALLY hard for me to quit because it makes me perfectly mentally alert when I wake up and I have a hard time finding something to replace that. I'm really foggy in the AM. I also think it is delicious, but it's the alertness that I struggle with. I love this! I carry my coffee in a mason jar already. I have also used them to bring soup to work because you can just take the lid off and heat in the microwave. I will definitely get this!

This looks a bit like Congee, another comfort food. With Congee, the rice completely breaks down giving it a creamy texture without the egg. Yum! I love reading about the different cultural variations and would love to see a recipe for the Turkish one with yogurt!

I'm not sure that peach walls would make everyone look good. I think I'll have to come over for dinner just to make sure. My faves in this house are the hot pink couch, kitchen table, stove & the rest of the kitchen. Your son is so beautiful. The last pic brings tears, his beautiful spirit shining through! Wow, surfers! What a way to be insulting. Smudging is a Native American simple cleansing ritual practiced by many Nations. Burning herbs like sage, cedar, or frankinsence, for ex. is common in many cultures and religions throughout the world, even the Catholic Church. Maybe that is just too "crazy" for you but honestly, you might enjoy learning about it. It's pretty interesting and common sense. I agree with you and everyone else saying that a good, thorough clean unbeatable but finishing it off with smudging could end it in beauty and I think it works -- that, and a house full of friends enjoying your hospitality -- I agree with that too.
