This is great but I do take offense with the blaring assertion that a banana is no better for you than a candy bar.

Depends on the candy bar. A Snickers bar at least has quite a bit of protein from the peanuts. Bananas are mostly starch and fiber. They've got some useful stuff in 'em, like potassium, but then, so do meat, dairy, eggs and nuts. And those also come packed with the protein and fats your body needs, instead of carbs your body doesn't.

Wha?!?

The solution is probably to lower the rest of the floor back to its original level, at least in that room. Expensive proposition, though.

It would travel a lot faster than mach 1. The idea is to evacuate all the air from inside the tube, so the train could travel several times the speed of sound in a near vacuum (no friction).

Lemony Kravitz has got his early-'70s inspired look down to a science, to go with his immaculately-crafted early-'70s sound. Gotta give him credit for that. His momma Gladys Kravitz taught him well.

(Just kidding, Lenny! Roxie rocked! Brains and beauty.)

I tried one of these monsters out in the store. You've gotta be kidding me. The ergonomics are crap unless you have a paw the size of a bear's. And it's too small to make an effective tablet.

Should have gone all out with the gross-out / freak-out-itude and put a glass sewer pipe in the shaft, so you could watch your, um, business descend 15 floors to the ground...

The before felt dreary, awkward and dark - especially for a studio. The wood paneling didn't help. The space might have worked as a family room or something.

The after is a stunning transformation - practical and beautiful. It's anything but "stark" though - in the bright light colors pop and the space feels much more vibrant.

I've been in an Eichler where it looked alright. Otherwise, it usually looks like crap.

This is a trend that deserves to have died, and it never needs to be resurrected.

Stunning remodel. Very true to its MCM roots - unlike the '70s remodel - while nicely updated for modern use. Great job!

First of all, if the glass isn't sealed (or mostly sealed, anyhow), it isn't much of a terrarium.

Beyond that, cacti and succulents can survive in a terrarium if it's kept pretty dry. It can be tough to balance the moisture levels though. You want enough moisture so the poor things don't dry out, but not so much that the air inside the terrarium gets humid and they rot.

Most of the tiny succulents you buy for tray gardens and such really don't last very long indoors. They either die or start looking shabby after 6-12 months. I'd consider such arrangements temporary. At least they're cheaper than 6-12 months worth of cut flowers.

I grew up in Arizona, and remember when "southwest" style really started to take off in the late '70s - early '80s. At first I didn't mind it, but after awhile I thought it became sort of oppressive and cliche. Hotels, shops and offices started to plaster "southwestern" colors, furniture and accessories all over spaces where they were completely out of place.

Now whenever I see it I just reflexively cringe. It does look alright I suppose in an appropriate setting, but if I never see another room tarted up in turquoise, pink and brown again it'll be too soon.

Hmmm. I have a plant that would probably do alright in the bathroom. Maybe I need to get a shelf or something for it to rest on...

The distressing is completely out-of-place, given the clean modern lines of the piece and the color chosen. I'm all for painting old furniture, especially if it's not in great condition, but these results are meh.

Now, with a glossy lacquered finish, in white or grey or heck even acid yellow...

Really? Paint over what look like good-condition terracotta tiles with white paint?

This room is pretty dark, and the dark tiles just exacerbated the problem. Since this is just a short-term fix, why not paint 'em white? I'm guessing their long-term plans never included those terracotta tiles, anyhow...

Frankly, I think terracotta tiles look best outside, or in a very large, very bright room.

The credenza is a waste of space. It's decorative but doesn't serve any function, which would be fine if the room was larger, but it's not.

As a result, too much furniture is crammed into the room, so there's no place for it to go but smashed against the walls. You get that spin cycle effect as a result.

Lose the credenza and pull the desk out away from the wall, facing the door and the table, which because it's round is the only thing that should be in a corner - the corner beside the door.

If you're gonna use it as a media stand I agree with the others - it would look a lot better without the hutch, assuming that could be removed without destroying the piece.

Otherwise, I'd sell it. Give it to someone who'll hopefully love it.

I will say, the Tory Burch stores look absolutely incredible, like Elizabeth Taylor's bedroom circa 1969 or something. Not really to my taste, but they sure make an impression.
