My husband's favorite dessert ingredient is rhubarb, and his birthday is in the middle of March—too early for rhubarb. So I freeze it when it's in season so I can make him a birthday rhubarb crisp or pie every year.

I make 12 breakfast sandwiches at a time with egg and cheese on an English muffin. Wrap in aluminum foil and keep in the fridge/freezer. Unwrap and microwave for 45 seconds (if not frozen) or 90 secs-2 minutes (if frozen). Wrap it back up in the tin foil and it stays warm during my commute to work and I can eat it at my desk. Sometimes I make a big batch of biscuits with ham and cheese in them, high-protein muffins, or breakfast burritos. It's so easy to grab them out of the freezer or fridge.

I make a tomato soup based on this recipe from Real Simple. The little bit of olive oil—and pureeing it in the blender—make it thick and luxurious.

You could try using unsalted saltine crackers instead, and make uniform square bars rather than trying to break the matzoh evenly.

Because it was an unseasonable near-80° day in Minnesota today, we grilled sausages and served them with guacamole, potatoes vinaigrette, and a friend brought fresh pineapple to grill.

My husband's birthday is Sunday and he has requested cassoulet, so I'm using Mark Bittman's recipe published in the New York Times last month. It's the first time I've made cassoulet, and the first time I've ever really worked with duck. A multi-day education, and I'm having a great time.

For breakfast on Sunday I'm working to replicate one of the best things we ate last year: Savory blue corn pancakes with pulled pork and coleslaw, something we ate at New Orleans' fantastic Green Goddess restaurant.

I'm late to the party too...Just halfway through the first week. There are some great recipes (the lentil recipe is simple and fantastic), but I don't think I'll be continuing the second week.

This is a pretty basic plan at the core: Whole grains; plenty of leafy greens; protein comes mostly from beans, white chicken meat, or fish; eating vegan, vegetarian, or nearly vegetarian for 2 meals per day; avoiding most dairy, wheat, sugar, and alcohol.

It is also very expensive and time consuming. I'm handy in the kitchen and accustomed to planning 3 meals per day by the week; for the second week of this cleanse, and probably into the future, I'll just adhere to those simple rules but make my own meal plan.

I wonder if placing the sandwich in parchment—then wrapping the whole thing in aluminum foil—would work as well and eliminate the fire risk.

We've been grilling spatchcocked chicken all summer. This recipe looks great, but I doubt it would take a full hour to cook at 400F unless it was a very large bird. Usually spatchcocking cuts the cooking time quite a bit, and it only takes an hour to roast a whole 4 lb bird at 400.

On Sunday nights I make a frittata with mostly veggies (similar to Mark Bittman's More Vegetable than Eggs Frittata). It's a great way to clean out the fridge, too; this week I used some spinach that was on its last legs, half a bell pepper left over from a salad, some bacon I'd cooked for BLTs earlier in the week, and some mushrooms. I use about 8 eggs or a combination of whole eggs and egg whites. Cut it into 5 wedges and I've got a low calorie breakfast for the whole work week.

I dampen a tea towel or paper towel, put the blade of a butter knife in it so that there's just one thickness of towel on either side of the blade, insert it at the back and pull it forward. Does a fine job.

Along similar lines, think about hosting any food even that seems like less pressure than a capital-D Dinner Party.

I'm lucky to have a large enough space to host them now, but in my previous tiny apartment, I hosted breakfast parties (think crêpes, bacon, mimosas), lunch parties (sandwiches, chips, etc.), and cocktail parties (cocktails and lots and lots of finger food appetizers). Everyone could eat standing up, sitting around the living room, etc. We always had a great time—who says you have to be sitting around a table to enjoy a meal together?
