somewhat related: i made these (lukewarmhand.com, new photos of new colors coming like tomorrow-ish) inspired by cuppow (the mason jar-sippy cup retrofit). I'm sure they could be used for insulation for hot salads and more drop-protection.

yes, quite different. when our dog needs to go out in the night (see: back door, to the left in the first photo) it's like walking onto sunny snowy slopes with no sunglasses. i cooked a meat and tomato heavy chili the first or second day all the doors were up (the day before these photos were taken) and i was afraid i would get splatter all over everything, but it turned out fine. also, when i deglazed the pan with alcohol, i was unsure whether the fire would leave black marks, but it didn't. i have to say i'm pretty happy with the change, britt did such a great job.

you can get formaldehyde free mdf these days. but you can't just buy at your local home depot, you need to go to a good wood purveyor and ask for it. it will be more expensive (and probably only available in 48x48 sheets) but it is better than polluting, i guess. Also, for other green furniture building, use 6/4-or thicker- alder or poplar for the frame, but make sure it's kiln dried and straight.

commenter spanky is right in that you will want to stretch burlap over open arm sides (and the back) and you might consider using jute webbing for other places (the tops of the arms, the back, etc). also, you should put burlap over the webbing on the seat because over time the seat foam will wear down and - think cellulite on 70s lawn chair - ok don't think that - but you get it.

@safarikate - lots of wood shops give the leftover scraps and collection dust to local composters. also, mdf dust is very fine and gets into everything.

project looked like fun, and i bet you have leftover fabric for accent pillows on the barcelonas, too.

it's really too bad she doesn't have an oregon sasquatch (samsquanch, bigfoot) plate. that would really round out the collection. otherwise i'd say it's acceptable kitch.

and i'm pretty sure it's a 60's knoll table.

I really love this. I'm not saying I'd spend the money on it, but I think it is beautiful.

I really like the yellow stripes. They look great with the white frame.

Thanks for the nice comments. I really did have trouble photographing. When I didn't use flash, they were just too blurry. You maybe can't tell, but these are two separate rooms--my bedroom has the cupcake, dog, and books, and my "headquarters" has the desk and...uh...other dresser. They are both green rooms, but different greens.

I'm glad you guys like the nightstand. I didn't have much room, so that works well. I just got it off ebay, and supposedly it is a phone stand that came from Nieman Marcus in the 50s. Phone books go in the bottom, there's a little pull-out surface with pencil groove, and I have no idea about that weird handle on top.

Rufus is the perfect size too, thanks.

brittany lives in portland and it's been really grey lately. the purple (light violet) dining room didn't show as much color this week as it usually does in sunshine. i'm just upset she didn't show my "strawberry" colored 1988 schwinn paramount road bike.

i'm brittanykate's boyfriend and the bed does wobble. she would like to add that the skinny mattress makes the bed look "flimsy"
