My Tullsta chairs from IKEA are the perfect color and perfect shape for my living room, but the slipcovers always look rumpled and wrinkly and ill-fitting. The Bemz ones look good in the catalog pictures but not so great in the customer pictures. What can I do other than wait for IKEA to introduce upholstered versions in new colors? Why not just use laminate? I concluded that by the time I sell my place, whatever expensive stone or concrete countertop I chose would be out of fashion anyway. So I just went with inexpensive laminate in a color I liked (black with specks of gray). One thing that can make a difference is the front edge. I like what Menard's calls a "European" edge, with a bullnose curve. It looks pretty sleek and I think I did the whole kitchen for about $400. Apartment Therapy Chicago | CHI Open Thread: 114 |

Glad to hear you like the AIA Guide (I drew all the maps). Actually the order of the entries within each chapter was set up so it would be the most efficient walking (or driving, in some chapters) route--even accounting for one-way streets. That's a little funny in the Loop, where the route goes all the way down State, then up Dearborn, then back south down Clark, etc. Apartment Therapy Chicago | The AIA Guide to Chicago |

Shortly after I bought my Malm in 2004, some of the slats broke. I finally got out to Schaumburg to replace them early last year, and discovered that they've changed the design to thicker slats. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Platform Beds Under $1,000 |

Lourdes, make sure you're asking at used office furniture places for "pedestals." Those are drawer units that go underneath countertops or desks in modern office systems. Used pedestals are really easy to find at used office furniture dealers such as Kentwood in Itasca or Arthur P. O'Hara in Bellwood. (ROE just off the Eisenhower on Menard also has nice stuff, but is not so much set up for small sales to individuals.) Apartment Therapy Chicago | Flat Files and Cabinets |

I have one Soda-Club for home and another for office, because I drink two liters of bubbly water a day. It sure is nice not having to lug those big bottles home from Jewel any more. Apartment Therapy - How To: DIY Bubbly Water |

It's the time of year when one night might require the summer-weight comforter and the next night the winter-weight one. So one or the other always ends up crumpled at the end of the bed. Any solutions? Apartment Therapy - Dressing the Bed for Fall |

Regarding the pantry, consider side-by-side larders. I like the Ikea ones, or look into these units: Apartment Therapy - Open Thread 71 |
