Mine was a gift too. (I know, lucky, lucky. I have a wonderful family.) I use mine all the time if I do not need to do any extensive writing -- it's great for consumption of stuff, not so great for creation, with a few exceptions. But the size and weight can't be beat, it holds a charge much longer than my laptop so I don't need to cart a bulky electrical cord around. If I were spending my own money, I would not have bought it. But I love it dearly.

Sounds wonderful, except walnuts are the only nuts I can't abide. Would any other toasted nut work well? (I do have unsweetened pomegranate molasses and agree it is a totally different animal than the sweet stuff.)

Our family gathering was a diehard PF fanbase for about 20 years, and then about 2 years ago my mother felt that PF was too flaky/crumbly. We switched to Mrs. Cubbisons and still make the stuffing with onion, celery, and Jimmy Dean pork sausage.

Also agree on the tough love... BUT here are some ideas, which you can teach him how to cook for himself: purchased (no lard!) pie crusts with eggs and spinach/goat cheese or broccoli/cheddar; macaroni & cheese with a layer of spinach in the middle; the nut loaf from the Greens cookbook (I hate nuts and mushrooms, the two main ingredients, and I love this dish); veggie chile (Greens also good there). Putting the burden on him to forage might also get him to try and learn to love more veggies. Good luck!

I have a friend with a cork floor in her kitchen that was installed about 10 years ago. She has done nothing special to maintain it, and is (and I say this affectionately) a bit slovenly in her cleaning habits. I won't claim that it is beautiful, because it isn't -- but it has held up remarkably well under her benign neglect. This is why I am planning to install cork floors when I finally do my kitchen remodel...

If a person is narcissistic, they are narcissistic even if they don't hang any portraits of themselves in the home. If they're selfless, or whatever is the opposite of narcissistic, they'll be that way even if their home is filled with their picture. It has so much to do with the people involved, and the presentation of the portraits...

There is a huge difference between the turkey bacon in the supermarket and what you find at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, both in taste and in chemicals. I occasionally buy the (expensive!) Turkey bacon at Whole Foods, and find that it's fantastic if you bake it in the oven, not so good if you try to fry it. It gets nice and crisp, and it's great with eggs, or as an addition to sandwiches, or general snack. I find it doesn't crumble enough to work for me in salads.

If the vet rules out a medical reason, I can confirm 2 things: that cats like to pee on latex backed mats, and that separation anxiety can do strange things to a cat's behavior. If your cat associates your shower with you leaving for the day to go to work, he may be expressing his anxiety by peeing on the rug. I close the door when I shower and don't leave the bathmat on the floor to remove the target. The anxiety may remain! My cat associates my departure with my morning toothbrushing, and cries frantically until I spit, rinse, and pick her up for a ritual 25-stroke petting.

I have a stackable W/D in the kitchen. It hasn't caused any problems having laundry in the kitchen, but as my kitchen is TINY I would much rather have more counter or cabinet space. When I have enough money to remodel my kitchen (i.e. when pigs fly), I am hoping to move them into a closet that's on the other side of the wall they're against.

Not to be preachy, but I don't care if I have to work a little harder with a green(er) cleanser to get my dishes clean. I accept that tradeoff. That said, I've used Trader Joe's, Ecover and 7th Generation and not noticed a difference in quality between them and the supermarket brands. Hadn't thought of using Bronner's -- I'm always a little freaked out by the wordy packaging, but I store my dish soap in a pretty glass bottle anyway. Good idea! Now my dishes can be both clean, and minty fresh! Ha.

I recently lost my 4 year old cell phone, which worked just fine. When I went to get the replacement, the store rep could NOT believe I had gone so long without swapping for a new one. He was stunned. "Did you know you've been eligible for a new phone for 3 years?!?!" He clearly doubted my sanity. It was amusing and disturbing, all at the same time.

I wish they had a little more specific information about how they calculate the results. I got a 2.6 and my "worst" category was food. That surprised me -- I'm almost vegetarian, and try to shop local and organic. So I couldn't tell what specifically about my answers got me the higher score, though I suspect it's because I am lazy and often purchase prepared food for lunch. Maybe I just answered my own question, but I still would like a little more detail in their explanation of the calculations.
