I love dark tones on the walls, I have a deep teal in my bedroom, and it is the most luscious color scheme with piles of warm greys, robin's blues, and deep satin-y purples. I switch out the fabrics to mix it up a bit, but it's my favorite room of the house. The rest has lots of windows, but we are fortunate enough to have lots of trees in the back, which means our house is shadowed most of the day, and where I even painted a mid to light grey I find myself wishing I had gone just a few shades deeper. the beiges and whites of the previous owners were just dirty looking and depressing. I'm in the process of painting a deep brown charcoal for a nursery right now and it just looks so rich and relaxing. It helped me decide to keep the stained wood trim too, rather than paint them white. I think however, it's all about color relationships. Nothing will work if you don't pick other things to harmonize.

Your rug is a slightly burnt yellow, it would look glorious with a nun patterned set of curtains in a teal or blue green- halfway between the middle and pastel on the value scale, so light but not so much that it reads springtime. A nice smooth texture would also be nice if you don't have a mix of textures in the room. Otherwise work with color mixes you love.

I love going out, but I've been focusing more on simplifying and making more conscious decisions on my spending and purchases (I could shop every day, all day.) The staying home instead of purchasing my entertainment was pretty difficult at first, but then I geared my surroundings a little differently and I could easily stay home for weeks as long as I'm calling friends/family often enough to be sociable. I have a home studio, and that's how I make a living so that is probably a big factor, but I also have been trying to focus on making my meals, every meal- which takes up time as well, but turns out very rewarding if you enjoy really cooking and giant kitchen messes. However I also love my house, probably spend way too much time on the tv and internet, and have a fully stocked bar and several bottles of wine at all times. :)

How Long Could You Go Without Leaving The House?

I think my bedroom is usually pretty clean so I'm going to challenge myself and expand where it really is bad-the master bathroom and closet. Moving from a tiny apartment to a house, I was incredibly fortunate to find one with a huge master bathroom and walk in closet that attaches to it, not the bedroom, so all of my messes and hangers/ random stuff on the floor happens in there. It's been a real adjustment trying to keep up cleaning when I finally have room to scatter stuff about, so this weekend is a necessary thing. Next step- remove the horrid all over ivy print wallpaper in those rooms so I really can sleep soundly.
