Oh, my gosh.. I have been meaning to talk to a neighbor of mine to have him STOP DOING THIS.
Ash is not welcome in my home! Old wood floors are sensitive and hard to clean!!
There must be a better way.

I am so glad this isn't in Philly. I'd spend all my time and money there... but my house would look awesome!

Personally, I think the pipes are pretty awesome. Could've probably gone even crazier with em. Great way to add electric, not have to rip up your walls and decorate at the same time!!

Great job. It looks amazing!! I also second the feeling of relief that siding was not the answer!!

I really love the idea.. and will definitely do it to my own house someday.. but I just want to point out to anyone thinking about it in the near future.. note that ALL of these gorgeous rooms either a) have crown molding or b) have the ceilings painted black too.. this obviously makes it a lot easier than trying to paint a straight line between ceiling and wall.. which, when done yourself... may not look so glamorous...

@burnttoast: I agree with the removal of a few upper cabinet doors.. we did this in our kitchen and it opens it up more than I would have thought!
As far as the dual paint colors.. if you want to paint 2 separate colors- you could use floor to ceiling bookshelves to hide the paint transitions. I don't know about the other transition area but this would definitely work on the corner by your table!

Although I dislike plastic covers on couches as much as the next gal.. however.. most of the sofas I've seen with plastic covers are nowhere NEAR as gorgeous/expensive as this table..

I think putting a piece of glass on the marble top is certainly understandable. If it's the difference between having a coronary every time you use it.. or giving your HUSBAND a coronary every time HE tries to use it.. I'd go with the glass! You'll live longer and so will the table!

Also try the grout cleaner from Restoration hardware.. they also sell.. what I would describe as a "giant toothbrush" to help with the job.
I worked on a portion of my white tile/white grout kitchen floor tiles (what a nightmare..) where the previous owners had the dog dish.. I only worked for 10 min or so and there was a noticeable difference. I don't know what's in it.. but most of their cleaning stuff is biodegradable.

Speaking of mid-century modern amazing-ness.. please pass it on that an original danish modern gondola sofa is for sale on manhattan craigslist for $350. Take a look!!!

My take: Room 1 as the bedroom with new free-standing wardrobe. Room 2 as LR with TV in closet and sofa/sitting area opposite. If you put the sofa with the back to the closet.. aren't you blocking both the door and access to the closet?

Or, hell.. forget the dining room.. eat at your coffee table like everyone else! :o) Put your couch and TV in the entry room.. #2 is your bedroom and #1 is your office/guest room.

Wow! What a wonderful job.. you really successfully mixed and matched from different style.. I notice that SOMEONE in the household really likes variations on Tiffany Blue.. :o).. I'm currently obsessed with that color as well.
Love the industrial/chem lab stools in the kitchen- and where did you get those pendants over the island?

I agree with colormusic- if you'll be there for a while and hate the cabinets- do whatever you want! Paint them pink if you feel like it! But do it well- ie: get a professional to do it with the spray for high gloss.. not the DIY paint streaks method.

BUT

I also think you need to settle down and give it some time before making a decision like that. It's like getting a new haircut right after a bad breakup. Most of the time... it is a very bad idea. Take a look at modern kitchens with cherry cabinets (there are a lot out there that are very well done).. Tweak the small stuff first.. live with it for a bit.. and then if you still hate it- paint them white.

I just wanted to add that this is actually "Katie and Greg's" Room. I don't want him to feel left out!!

Thanks everyone for all the positive feedback! Along with the feedback about the records on the walls... I guess we were just going for a shape (other than rectangular) with some color.. but I can't take credit for the placement of them.. we just hung them on nails that were already in the walls from years and years of previous tenants.. We did hang the 9 squares in the window pane arrangement on the brick though.. I have to ask Greg how he did it.

Thanks Boff. Mutt is hanging with Blossy over in the bed corner.

Dip: I'll sponge paint some unicorns on the wall JUST for you!!
