Another good tip for celery is cutting it and putting it in water to keep it fresh...in my experience it works with other veggies too; when I have broccoli that's gone a little soft, I just put the stalk in a cup of water for an hour and it is almost as good as new!

I agree that composting is good, chickens would be better but I don't think my landlord would go for it.. :b

Being mindful about freezing items nice and early on is important, too; if you think you may not finish it in time, just freeze it! You can always defrost later. Leftover pizza, cooked veggies, some leftover sauces (i.e. pesto) etc....you can freeze more than you think.

ALWAYS locked! I've had my apartment broken into even WITH the door lock, too, so now whenever I'm on the ground floor I have bars on the top of the windows to stop people from breaking in by popping the locks...

No drawers in the kitchen? Clean marinara sauce jars and use them as holders on the counter.

If you are renting, another good, more practical tip is to photo-document anything that is wrong with the apartment (scuffs, dents, holes, etc.) and have both you and your landlord sign off on these pictures, as it will protect you in case this person tries to stick you with the repair bill by taking some of your security deposit, once you move out. Unfortunately there are a lot of landlords out there who will do this, so the more you can protect yourself, the better (I speak from experience)!
