I may have been that bride! I too purchased 200 plates for my wedding, along with silverware because it was cheaper than renting. These plates have since been used for baby showers, weddings, birthday parties and more. Great investment especially when you share them with the neighborhood!

I have long swooned over BDDW's designs. Amazing, crazy pricey, but gorgeous! Love your retake!

Le creuset makes the best tea kettles, durable colorful and well designed. The Kona & Ogive have nice clean modern lines and look great on the stove. Pouring from a saucepan into a tea cup just makes a mess, that's why you need a teakettle!

Tickets to a show - something that the recipient wouldn't generally splurge on. Another great subscription type option are the ticket packages you can buy to specific theaters and the recipient can pick and choose which shows and dates to go. I've done this for the ballet, music halls and theaters - and supports the arts. Another option is a membership to a museum - great for families too!

I have been obsessed with the Iittala glasses, but have perfectly good wine glasses so haven't been able to justify buying new ones just because they are so pretty...

can completely relate to this - found this fabulous metal lamp base and instantly envisioned it in turquoise with the perfect straight drum shade - had no idea how elusive that lamp shade would be. closest I came was one on lamps plus for $18.99, but it's slightly tapered...

Love the rug, but am sure it's outrageously expensive (as are all things Ligne Roset - ahh to be able to get the family & friends discount!!) but wondering if you could do a vintage DIY version....

I like the colors, I think it might lose its pop! pow! in other colorways, it would still look good, but not quite the same. I think this would be a lot of fun in dining room paired with natural wood.

What a fun experiment. And honestly you should be able to test-drive a bed before buying!

I test drove (at my in-laws house) my sleep innovations memory foam mattress before I bought one and I definitely recommend it. A $350 mattress that I have had and loved for 4 years. It has ruined me for other mattresses. I've got a bad back and the firmness of this mattress provides excellent support for my back. I even did the wine glass (well we used water in a glass, no one wants to risk spilling a good red!) and it held up.
