I have a similar set up in the my attic apartment, and what I did was install a closet bar at the very top where the slanted wall meets the flat one and hung a bunch of cloth collapsible shelves from that. I ended up cutting out the sides of the first couple shelves nearest the top and letting the lower ones just collapse a bit against the angle--it works a lot like custom wooden shelving but was obviously a lot cheaper and temporary.

My tip: don't hesitate to visit places with very short descriptions, no pictures, etc. if there's something about it that catches your eye. Sometimes, they're duds, yes, but sometimes landlords simply don't know what they have and you can find some real gems by being willing to risk wasting a half an hour on a visit. My current *fabulous* apartment was listed pretty much as "Attic apartment, [Ridiculously cheap price], [Ridiculously great neighborhood], call to inquire." You never know when you're gonna luck out.

I 100% second dbavaria--in my bedroom, having even a box spring just wouldn't make sense, due to low ceilings and almost no space to do anything except lie down. And...I love it. I use my second room as a dressing room/desk zone and I pretty much instantly fall asleep when I crawl into bed because I do literally nothing but sleep there are there's all kinds of good, cozy nap-energy.

I like all these ideas, but none of them really work for MY radiator(s), which are two feet wide, four feet tall, eight inches out on the wall and bright freaking red. I've thought about painting them but the fact that they protrude so far out means they're pretty much gonna be all you look at no matter what, and I can't think of a way to make them look cute. any ideas?

I live in a pretty wacky (but wonderful!) attic apartment, and the "bedroom" zone is really a narrow room with a little step-down area with a slanted ceiling that the landlord tried to sell to me as perfect for storage. I switched it up and put my bed in there--sans bedfame, nightstand, everything, to avoid bumping my head--hung a ton of lights and art on the wall and made it into a kind of sleep-nest.The upper part is, also, devoted entirely to clothes, a mirror, and general preening.

I never thought I would be a mattress-on-the-floor, nowhere-to-sit-but-the-bed kind of girl, but I absolutely love it--it really forces me to do most of my living in the living room and kitchen, and leaves one space just for sleep, rather than having my bedroom be the place where I spend literally all of my time. That's the thing I've come to love about small space living--it forces you to streamline how you actually live, and in most cases, really organizes and improves your lifestyle.
