Fallingup, Stilettopeel, and JBFL: This is the result of AT's having taking five separate blogs and combined them into one. This would have gone on the old Ohdeedoh blog, separate from decorating stuff, but now it's here. Not that I agree with the move to put five blogs into one, just pointing out why this is here.

I don't have any recipes, but I thought I'd point out that orange and rhubarb make a great combination. I've had this in a jam format, as Trappist Preserves makes a fantastic orange-rhubarb conserve. Perhaps you could google orange and rhubarb and see what comes up?

Oops, should have said, "when little Johnny'd dad is letting him let out warhoops..." Dads don't typically do the warhooping. :)

@Bitts: Actually, it's not normal behavior. Yes, children will have their meltdowns, but the behavior of children in public (or anywhere, really) has DEFINITELY gone way downhill and the extent to which parents do not discipline their children has gotten much worse even in just the last ten years.

You say that everyone has to eat, right? Well, guess what, so do I, the single lady with no kids. Why should it be that those with unruly children should expect to be able to impose their insanity, chaos, and disruption, on everyone else, and I can't expect to impose a little expectation of some relative peace at the store? Yes, I can understand that Junior might be having a bad day, but no, I can not understand that Mom would do absolutely nothing about it when there are other people around. To ignore your kid who is disturbing others (how can I do math or price comparing in my head when little Johnny'd dad is letting out warhoops next to me?) is incredibly selfish and rude. If the kid throws a tantrum, have some consideration for others and nip it in the bud. It's called putting your foot down. But then, it's self-centered parents that lead to self-centered kids...

It's one thing when a kid acts up. Heck, I was a kid that acted up. But when I was a kid, you can sure as bet my $%& was in deep trouble if I ever gave an outburst like the kind today's kids get by with. Actually, my parents would put the kabosh on it LONG before it could get that far. Seriously, everyone my age that I know was raised the same way. You were taught boundaries, and tantrums, screaming, etc. in the grocery store were a boundary you just did not cross. And you were taught that not everyone wanted to hear your whining/complaining/whatever because, *gasp* we were taught the world did not revolve around us.

And lest anyone say,"But you have no kids!" let me say that I do have eyes. I have plenty of friends with kids, and I can clearly see which ones discipline well and which ones don't and the resulting behavior of both.

Usually, I weigh things, but my scale is broken at the moment. So this is helpful! Why did I never think of this?

This would also be helpful in the reverse -- for example, you might have only part of a stick of butter in the fridge and don't really know how much is left, and you want to figure out how much you have. You could put the butter in a liquid measuring cup and add water up to, say, 2 cups, then take the butter out and see how much the level of water dropped.

The people who take FOREVER to decide what they want in the cold case with the door open. Um, thanks...I really wanted soup cream instead of ice cream.

Also, the people who take FOREVER to decide what they want when I am obviously standing there waiting to access whatever shelf/bin/case they are standing in front of. Like, really? I know exactly what I want and can grab it in half a second, and you won't even move when I say excuse me?

11. Pull out the umbrella and get outside anyway.

I LOVE rain, so I don't let it keep me inside. I go for walks in the rain all the time, as long as there is no lightning.

Wow. I can't even imagine being so rude as to ask a person why they are drinking/not drinking alcohol!

If someone asked me, I wouldn't give them an answer. It's nice to leave a little air of mystery about oneself sometimes.

I find it funny that there's even a rule in South Africa about adding cream of tartar added to wine. It comes from wine in the first place. It's a byproduct of winemaking (collects inside the casks), so you'd just be taking it from one cask of wine to add to another cask of wine.

@Anita: Actually, I was always taught just the opposite, that you should salt and pepper your food BEFORE you taste it, as seasoning afterwards supposedly sends the host/hostess, who generally did the cooking, that you don't like their cooking.

It can also damage the cutting board -- sliding the sharp side of the blade over wood can cause splinters in the board.

Ever since I took a course in baking and learned how much the salt content of salted butter (which changes from brand to brand) effects a recipe, I keep unsalted at home. Because unsalted goes rancid faster, and since I go through butter slowly when I'm not baking, I keep my butter in the freezer so it keeps longer.

Most Americans, so said my Austrian baking instructor, prefer salted butter on food because we started adding salt for the sake of preserving butter and then just got used to the salt, which probably explains why everyone else I know uses salted butter, and I never knew unsalted existed until my baking course.

Not sure I can explain the elderflower part, just that it's floweral. But St. Germain is not purely elderflower; there's also some citrus in it, I believe.

I'm confused by #4. Who on earth needs that much bedding if it's warm enough that the door to the outside can be left open? I'd be sweltering!
