I have been a vegetarian all my life and for most of my life that was the 'normal' way to be! I am Indian (south asian) and never realised before moving to the US that people would look at me and wonder 'How do you not eat meat?'! I think the reason this question riles people up is that vegetarianism is considered a fad; that others have to accomodate. Why should they not get the meat as is 'normal'? But I dont cook meat (dont know how), dont eat it, and have never had an omnivore go hungry in my home.

Two of the flattish ikea baskets; one holds onions and spuds, the other holds the weekly supply of bread. My fridge top has never looked so organised before!
The tiny overfridge cabinet holds some extra wine glasses and the larger food processer (yes, we have two! the joys of merging households!).

I think i like the first commenter's rules: live, laugh, leave.

The shoes thing freaks me out. I grew up in an asian family, wearing shoes indoors would be a mark of serious disrespect. When i figured out other people wear shoes indoors, I almost decided not to throw any parties ever! I've loosened up since, close friends know and will take their shoes off anyway; people I dont know that well get to keep shoes on (in nice weather, atleast), but i have a (suggestive) set of slip-ons by the door. In any case, the vacuum cleaner rushes out as soon as they leave.

well, the girl-guy thing seems to me more about traditional attitudes towards whose responsibility it is, rather than just a clean/messy thing. Luckily, my SO is pretty good about it. Since we have different levels of tolerance and priorities for different things, somehow the whole thing works out. He does the dishes, I scrub the stove, he does the laundry, I vacuum. It helps that he lived by himself for while, i guess, and learned that things dont just get done by themselves. (atleast, thats how I learned it!).

Wireless speakers make the apartment so neat while filling it with inspiring music. Inspired neuroscientist couple discover the cure to all world diseases, and then go on to develop a music-based antidote for war. World peace is assured. (or atleast, we will be very very happy!)

A bit of Rex Ray would brighten any day. His concept of turning the work that frustrated him into something that expresses his ideas, is pure genius.

I grew up in a 'crafty' home- its what my mom and grandmom do while watching tv, talking to someone or even while planning other crafts. Whether it was bead curtains, wall hangings, unique pieces of art from toothpaste caps (stack them up for pillars for a doll sized pavilion in a model garden; I didnt say they were anything but elaborately inventive. :-)), sweaters or clothes, I had the most unique things!! Now I live halfway across the globe, spend hours a day on the train, and work as a scientist, but when I pick up my latest project after dinner, I am sort of home.
