HAHAHA, there's no such thing as left over bacon! Silliness!

Good point-- it's hard to find space for them sometimes. I use the unoriginal under the sink approach, but some local flower shops will take back your old vases (you know, those standard ones you don't need a bunch of) and maybe even give you a little discount on flowers. It's one way I keep my collection under control.

Plus, gives me an excuse to visit my local flower shop-- I love em!

I love doing my BSCBs in the slow cooker. I pretty much cover the bottom of the cooker with coarse sea salt, place the breast on top in a single layer. Sprinkle with more salt and add pepper. Cover with water (about 4 cups in my cooker) and cook for 7 hours on low. You'll get very tender chicken and you haven't added any oil. And it's shredded chicken, which I love, and use for salads, sandwiches, tacos, etc. for the week. You could also probably use the liquid remaining in the cooker as a broth, but it might be a bit salty.

I loooooooove macarons. Even though I live in LA I fell in love in SF at Miete. now, no other macaron can compare (until maybe I visit Paris).

CaliH: In LA, Paulette in BH is one of the main purveyors, though still no comparison to my fave in SF. Also, downtown, you can go to Bottega Louie for a good selection.

sorry, but this is so funny to me! It makes perfect sense though, and I might just try it. although, I don't know if my counter is even big enough. Maybe I'll go with tea towels.

I was pretty happy with the salad spinner and patting dry with paper towels method (though it felt very wasteful). I keep my cleaned greens in a giant metal bowl and it stays good for a pretty long time (at least a week). I suppose if I could get another week out of it, that would be good!

Not exactly new, to restaurant menus at least (I'm in LA) but maybe you mean it's been popping up on more recipes?

Nevertheless, nobody has ever been able to give me a very exact definition of what the heck it it-- so, I thank you for that! NOW, I get it! (and still love it)

Love the smell of fresh basil! Bought some from the farmer's market last weekend and used it in my cheesy veggie lasagna as well as a big green salad-- YUM!

Yes, very cute, but would probably only use for gifting.

Still trying to figure out how best to organize my recipes on the computer-- Evernote or a stand-alone software...? Maybe it's time for a new post on the topic?

If you live in the US it can be 'macaroon' or 'macaron', but it's not the coconut version, it's the french macaron. So, sure, 'macaron' is correct, but down-to-earth bakers won't fault you at all for saying 'macaroon' if you're not French. I asked because I feel like a pretentious dumb-ass trying to give anything a french sound.

There have been a bunch of places popping up in LA selling them. I've also seen them being sold at Starbucks and Trader Joe's recently. Not all stores have them, but they're out there. I doubt they're as luscious as Miete's though. Heaven...

No, macaroons are definitely the new cupcake-- Miete in San Francisco is a good place to start.

In regards to the OTHER way these microwave covers are used...these (below) are my favorite re-usable covers for fridge bowls. I LOVE the one I got from the Martha Stewart collection at Macy's, but I don't think they're selling them anymore. I did see something similar at Sur La Table. They suction right onto the tops of just about any bowl! LOVIT!
