I bought this book at a thrift shop years ago and read it cover to cover just for the fun of it. I love to cook, although I confess the occasional can of soup has shown up in my cupboard. The funniest thing about my copy of this book was the notes that the previous owner had made in the margins. For example, on one recipe for slow cooker pot roast the book called for pot roast and onion soup mix. There is a note which crosses out the onion soup mix and says "not necessary." I wonder what was left to go in her pot? Weekend Meditation: Trying to Find Something to Hate About Cooking |

I love this idea, but is it possible to do with different sized families? I have 4 children, so, one meal for my family would have to be bigger than average. Any ideas? Great Idea! Start a Freezer Meal Cooperative | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |

You don't actually have to take the bones out. They are quite soft. Just mash them up with the meat and you won't notice them. This makes your salmon very high in calcium! This is just like a classic Dutch dinner called Boerenkool, which is a staple in any good Dutch home. Usually they will eat it with some nice smoked sausage such as Rookworst. Some people like to top it with vinegar and others prefer some gravy on top. I have good memories of eating boerenkool growing up, and now I'm excited to try new versions with ingredients like Parmesan, truffle oil, and garlic! This is similar to how I fed all 4 of my children when they needed bibs. I just made longer than usual bibs and tucked them under their bowl. True, sometimes they'd jerk backwards and end up with a lap full of cheerios, but that happened less than you'd think, and on the whole resulted in a lot less cheerios than usual on the floor. Also, it seemed to make the children more aware of having to stay close to the table, which is good training for the bib-less stage where they need to know how to eat over their plate. My husband and I had this on the weekend for a stay at home date night. We wanted something we could put together after the kids were down to bed. We love, love, loved it! Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Melinda's Spaghetti Squash With Avocado and Parmesan Quick Weeknight Meals Recipe Contest 2009 |
