I grew up in the late fifties/early sixties in "tiny boxes" suburbia--all the houses on our block were exactly alike but one neighbor had added on a glassed in family room which I thought was just amazing (this was way before family rooms were common) and one neighbor had built a little playhouse for his daughter in their backyard that I absolutely loved to play in.

you can buy some iron on sheets at the office supply store so that you can go to Kinkos or Staples and do a color copy of your paper, then print it on the iron on sheets, then lay them onto fabric and iron your pattern onto a solid white or cream fabric, then use that to make a pillow.

the issue will be that usually the images are not as vibrant as the original--it may be more faded looking depending on what you iron it on to...and the size--these sheets are paper size so you may want to sew a border of some solid around your transferred image to make a decent sized pillow.

here is the type of thing you need to do the transfer--you can do it with a scanner/laser and inkjet--i've just had good luck with color copiers--and the surface is bigger so i can scan more and size things.

If you can find a bedskirt you like (normal length) you can purchase a roll of iron on tape and simply fold up the excess length and iron it with the tape inside--the iron on tape will hold the "hem" up with no sewing.

the tape is available at most fabric stores

i agree a greyed green or blue would be great with your furnishings.

i would move the flower pictures over and put them in the wall going up the stairs where they would be on their own---they really clash with your furniture.

an accent wall would really help with the long narrow shape of the room i think---you are going in the right direction.

also agree, an area rug would help

Recliners are a little harder to slipcover or upholster yourself.

I have done this as a kind of patch on this kind of thing furniture i can't afford to recover.

I have found a home dec fabric i like that doesn't clash with the current upholstery and goes with my room.

I buy a length so in this case i would measure the inside back the seat the from the floor to the seat, plus maybe 1/2 the length of the back.

i fold the fabric in half and sandwich some quilt batting inside, and quilt it--could be decorative quilting, sometimes i just do stripes across or the length---

and i drape the long quilted piece so it covers the inside of the chair, down the back and front---so all you really see is the arms--and then tuck in---it usually fits very neatly inside the chair, is comfy, can be taken off and washed---sometimes i prop a contrasting throw pillow in the chair to distract from the arms still showing.

the long custom fit "throw" is very tailored and the quilting seems to keep it flat and neat, not wrinkly like a throw might be if sat on.

i live in a small town with no laundry pick up and delivery services, and my washer/dryer is in my basement, and i could not walk---try not doing laundry for 10 weeks.

these people have hit on something simple that will be such a blessing.
