Oooh, I didn't know that snake plants can handle low light.
Lucky Bamboo LIKES being in the dark, so it's not "cruel." Another way to get the "green vibe" throughout the apartment? Bunches of Eucalyptus. Smells great, too...

you can pick up gold fish bowls fairly cheap and they look lovely w/ candles inside. You can add big stones to the bottom, or just place the candle right inside.

An older neighbor once told me, "always clean for 15 minutes before bed." works like a charm. When I make my significant other get into the 15 minute act, it's a full 30 minutes of cleaning.

I used to be a total slob. What changed? When you sit in mess, LIE to yourself and say, "this mess makes me agitated and stressed out. I can't relax." Eventually you'll believe it and you'll start cleaning your home like crazy. Worked for me!

I use a mix of vinegar, Oxy-Clean, dishWASHER soap (less slippy) on the concrete, wood decking and a bunch of other surfaces & scrub with a broom like the one pictured. the grime and filth will bubble up and I rinse it away. Careful about using this combo on stained teak & such, it'll leech the color out.

smart! I've resorted to using a layer of baby powder and a layer of rice over the oil stain. Chalk is LESS messy, for sure...

Mrs.Meyers addict here. I have 2 of the counter spray bottles (kept in kitchen and bathroom) that I refill w/ the "all purpose" liquid and water. It's REALLY economical and saves me loads of money. I also use their dish soap, which is fine- but you guys are right about Mrs. Meyers dishwasher liquid. My dishes are never right. I thought it was the dishwasher, but I'm going to switch!

- Windex anti-bacterial. Shines the hell out of the bathroom sink/tiles and makes the germaphobe in me shut down. Must be the "anti-bacterial" label.

- bottle mix of tea tree and water.

- SWIFFER WET JET RULES for floors! I never want to mop again!!! But the regular swiffer w/ wet pads? Don't bother.

- Vinegar and baking soda for serious scrub action and drain cleaning. For concrete patios and decking I use Oxy-Clean, vinegar and dishwasher liquid (less slippy). Brings up the filth w/ ease!

- Reusable cloths for cleaning. I put a hook over the sink and one in the bathroom to hang the cloths. But NEVER use on the toilet! keeps my surfaces clean without wasting paper towels and relying on bacteria ridden sponges.

The only time I even use this thing is to microwave popcorn. I don't even need it.

No way. I love the sound of the A/C drifting me off to sleep, I love the smack of cold air enveloping me while humidity threatens to stick to my skin. I love the A/C. That said, I keep the fan ceiling whirling & the curtains drawn to repel heat & don't turn on the unit until I need it.

I DO hate the lack of window space & I wish I had NEVER given up my upright air conditioner. It was the best. I may reinvest.

For pet urine- Nothing beats "Nature's Miracle."If you think that there is hidden traces of cat urine, get a handheld blacklight, because cat urine glows under the black light! Pour Nature's Miracle on the floor for a soak & then mop up. Should do the trick. It's also good at killing loads of other odors...

Damp- I tried DampRid & you'd be amazed at what liquid it pulls in from the air. Try it in musty areas. Look it up. This product is excellent.

Odor Eaters- Bad Air Sponge!!!! For tough odors you may need a few. I LOVE this product. I smoke & have cats & it pulls the bad odor out & leaves a trace scent, smells fresh. Big companies put these in the vents & behind the cooling fans.

Putting NEW smells in- I have a few methods... Tossing herbs like cinnamon & cloves into a pot & simmering on the stove. Keeping clusters of dried eucalyptus in vases around the house & in closets, etc. And oil warmers. I like electric. Add essential fragrance oil & water in & voila! permeates the air.

I keep Mrs. Meyer's All purpose cleaner spray & a handled scrub brush in the shower- which I use to scrub the tile, bath & curtain down toward the end of my shower. But, every 2 weeks I still can't resist spraying the whole lot down with the chemically goodness of scrubbing bubbles.... It just keeps it all super clean. Hey, those talking bubbles sold me as a kid. GREAT idea about storing the bags at the bottom of the bin.

I LOVE the Swiffer wet jet for cleaning up the bathroom floor.

I make a weirdo meatloaf. Meatloaf can be made adding everything but the kitchen sink! I add cinnamon, raisin, spicy mustard, some ketchup, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire, onions & I baste it red wine. Should that taste good? Probably not, but it does, indeed!

I am with Molly! I love to boil cinnamon sticks with cloves! Permeates the air rather well with the loveliest scent. I am also a HUGE fan of the "Bad Air Sponge." This seriously removes odors from the air.

I had a dampness issue in my Brooklyn bathroom, so I bought "Damp Rid." It's amazing! It wicks away all of the excess moisture into a container that collects the water. You just empty the container into the toilet when it's filled.

Try it out before the walls get ruined & mold gets trapped. They do sell containers that aren't all that ugly & can be placed next to the toilet. Just take a look around....
