Any chance you could squeeze in a stool or chair by the window so you could enjoy a cup of coffee with the morning sun?

we were sitting in the kitchen when my husband asked "do you have the hose running". I did not. We raced to the basement and our water heater was flooding everything. Thank God we were home.
I called our trusty plumber who was well acquainted with our 130 year old water system, I already knew I wanted a tankless, and he had one in stock. He came the next day. The unit cost $900 (a Takagi). I did no advance research, bad idea. By the end of the installation the whole bill was a shock at around $2000.I didn't ask enough questions about installation.
The unit is immediately below the kitchen sink in the basement. It takes almost a full gallon of water before the hot comes. Consequently washing of coffee cups, etc is done in cold water. If I am in the bath tub and the water cools down its another gallon of cold before the hot comes. And its not really hot -its very warm. The plumber has to be the one turn increase the temp. We've already had him here once and it isn't enough- its one of those built in "safety" features.
I REALLY regret this water heater and just wish I had gone traditional gas heater. It is a question of cheap plentiful water vs. natural gas $$$.
THis is a drought year in Northern California and soon we'll be allotted 75 gallons of water a day per person. I guess I'll be saving all that cold water somehow.
