For families, I believe small spaces bring you closer to your kids. We have four kids ranging in age from 5 to 16, and live in a 1,100 apt (maybe not small by NYC standards, but small for 6 people no less). It's very hard to hole yourself away which--while at times is difficult--I believe in the long run has helped us grow close as a family. There's no kids play room, no media room, no truly private or separate rooms. And we all love it.

Get rid of. Missing a chair. Plus, those chairs are horrible to sit in. Super unstable. I love the "idea" of this set but it's a pain in reality.

The dark green on the right... did you paint it? If so, I would URGE you to choose the lightest color b/c your edging skills are not so hot. There's a lot of color bleeding on to the trim. The darker the color, the more that messy edge will show up.

This may be my favorite AT house tour ever. I love that there is zero trendy in this house. The collection has been loving acquired over time, the palette is neutral without being bland, and the house just looks incredibly cozy. This house has soul.

While I'm sympathetic to the "keep the wood" crowd, this one looks like it might be veneer. Veneers often look better with a well-executed paint job.

Having said that, I don't think this is a great redo. When a dresser has drawers that are slightly off-kilter, then a light shade just serves to highlight the problem. Also, not fond of leaving some wood to shine through. Looks very homemade and not polished.

Like some other posters... yes, of course the house is beautiful. Having said that, it feels more like a luxury hotel than a house. No personal details whatsoever and a little too cute. Plus, those shells on the chairs are pretty awful. I think that if one were to sit on that chair, would feel much like sitting on the potty. Don't know why the shell made me think of one of those old-fashioned latrines. Weird to have the gaping mouth of a shell positioned right where you need to plonk yourself down.

Love it... would never in a million years consider buying it, but I love it.

There is a new spray paint called "Krylon Fusion." I've never used it but I know that they market it as a product that can cover basically anything, including plastic. Range of colors is not huge, but there are some nice ones in there.

Unlike the last poster, I would have zero problem painting these. There are a GAJILLION of chairs like this out there (I used to buy furniture for an elementary school) and I don't think you are committing any serious crime. Plus, a brighter color would make them look great.
