This is much needed! It has been too long since we washed our sheets... I'm embarrassed to say. Plus my goal project is the master bedroom closet so I just may do some work on that, as well! Day 13: Weekend Chores - Flowers & Bedroom Apartment Therapy January Cure |

I read a bit, cuddled with my cat, cooked and ate in total silence, took a nap, got up to eat some ice cream, read some more, and fell asleep early. My husband was working, otherwise, it would have been impossible because the TV is always on. It was lovely, even though I felt bad that I can't enjoy the silence without falling asleep apparently! I know I could have played music, but I kind of liked not doing so. I even burned a nice-smelling candle. Day 11: Try a Media Fast Apartment Therapy January Cure |

Ah, we did this a couple of months ago. I'm much like @tryphe, and it was painful enough to do the last cull. Best I can do on today's assignment is do a bit better organization on the books in the bedroom. However, when we did our purge a couple of months ago, we got rid of probably about 100 books (ouch)! If you shave off small pats of butter and set them on the toast (fresh out of the toaster) -- maybe 2-3 pats per slice depending on how much you like -- and then give it, oh, 1-2 minutes, it will melt enough that you can spread it easily. I spent some time on my goal project last night -- organizing the bedroom closet -- and I already feel so much better! There are still piles of unruly clothes that I need to tidy up before the end of the month, and a growing pile of stuff to donate, but I've gotten rid of an old bookcase that was (ineffectively) storing some shoes (with plenty more piled all over the floor), hung neat shoe organizers in its place, corralled my purses onto hooks to use up blank wall space instead of useful shelf space, and starter storing pre-maternity clothes (and some possible clothes to donate) in a big Rubbermaid container, instead of on the floor. Oh! And hung over-the-door hooks to break us of our habit of hanging robes, hats, etc. on the doorknobs. Can't wait to share the finished project! Ugh. Our front door opens directly into our living room. There's plenty of room in our back room for this, but we park in front and never go in our back door because the alarm is set to trigger instantly back there. That leaves us with a roughly 12" span of wall to the left of the front door, which is currently occupied by an end table. With the end table there, there's no way to hang anything. Without the end table, there's no surface, unless we mount a shelf, which won't be enough for mail. And to be honest, I don't want mail cluttering up our living room side table. Thank goodness one of the items on my to-do list is figuring out a better solution for our "pantry" (which is really just a bunch of cabinets). I definitely need this assignment this weekend! Day 8: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Kitchen Cleaning & Make Yourself a Meal Apartment Therapy January Cure |

I love the idea of creating something to hang, but in the end, we're going to finally frame a great black-and-white photograph of the pre-9/11 skyline that my husband bought at the art museum last year. He's from New York, so it really resonated with him. Liveblogging Day 6: Art that Makes You Smile and Makes You Think Liveblogging the January Cure |

2/29 or 1/29? Anyway, agreed on perfect timing -- one of my projects for the year from Day 1 was to do something with the pileup of artwork in our bonus room! Day 6: Choose a Piece of Artwork & Get Going on Framing It Apartment Therapy January Cure |

OK, confession: I totally failed this weekend. I didn't buy flowers or green cleaners, and our floors are still filthy. Can I use pregnancy and good intentions as an excuse? Day 4: Get a Fresh Perspective in Just 10 Minutes Apartment Therapy January Cure |

The toilet seat is CONSTANTLY coming loose. It's vexing because it doesn't do that in the other bathroom. All the parts seem to be there and working fine. It's such a pain to constantly retighten it. Otherwise, the hall bathroom is pretty decent. We could use more storage in the master bath (which, while in the master bedroom, is actually much smaller than our hall bath) and will be looking for some over-the-toilet shelving and valet options this year. We need a bedframe. And a new bed because ours was a hand-me-down and is impossibly soft and uncomfortable. I painted the bedroom myself and there's a patch of unpainted wall above the windows over our bed! And paint STILL dripped on the baseboard and floors that I need to clean up/patch. Our closet is a disaster -- I need to cull, and look into DIYing some better storage options in there. Our bedroom ceiling fan broke and living in Florida, this just will not do, so we need to buy and install and new ceiling fan. I wouldn't mind a new duvet cover/sheets to match upcoming seasons. And we really need more than one set of sheets so I don't have to rush through laundering them all the time. The bedroom is probably my No. 1 focal point this year. We need a second side table and lamp on the other side of our huge sectional. I'm toying with the idea of getting a different cover for our IKEA Karlstad (the brown waffle attracts red dog hair like nobody's business and the texture makes it impossible to vacuum out so I'm thinking the smoother dark gray) but we'd have to totally take apart the couch so that will have to wait. We need more art on the TV wall and need to get somebody to come in and wall-mount the TV. Otherwise it's looking pretty decent. Maybe an area rug for the dining room (which is open to the living room and hence practically part of it). Your Biggest & Smallest Living Room Problems?? 2013 Reader Forum |
