So funny that this recipe should be posted the day I returned home from a trip to Lithuania where my Russian mother-in-law made this every two days or so for us! Now I'll be making it at home for my husband and daughter! Kompot: The Fruit Punch of Eastern Europe |

@babyfishmouth, this is not a normal landlord/tenant relationship. While I agree that she shouldn't necessarily be stuck with the entire bill of refinishing the whole floor, she is responsible for addressing the issue and making it right. It was her mistake that left part of the floor stripped, and it's not always possible to only refinish one portion of the floor, but perhaps that should be looked into. I think what is important is that the family relationship be preserved, otherwise it could spill over into other familial relationships....and nobody likes when that happens. If it were a normal landlord/tenant relationship, I'd say just cut your losses with the security deposit. That's what it's there for anyway. But involving family in these kinds of disputes could (and will) get messy. How To Repair Damage From Steaming Wood Floors? Good Questions |

Is refinishing out of the question? I'd just own up to your mistake, and ask your landlord/relative how to make it right, making it absolutely clear that you have every intention of following through and making it right. How To Repair Damage From Steaming Wood Floors? Good Questions |

I'm skeptical that having my camera hanging off my belt loop is any safer than having it hanging around my neck. I really don't mind using a hand to keep it steady. I spent good money on my camera. I SHOULD use a free hand to keep it steady when wearing around my neck. And I SHOULD use my custom camera back to keep it safe when not in use. It's not an inconvenience, it's respect for my equipment. It's a neat idea, but I don't see it as keeping my camera any safer, especially while hiking. I mean, I can just imagine the camera scraping up against boulders accidentally. Yikes! How to Quickly Access Your DSLR Camera |

I think it's clever and practical. I have a very large master bedroom, but that doesn't mean I want my beautiful floors covered up with a dog bed no matter how nice the dog bed looks. This is something I'd consider doing for our gargantuan dog. It would be really nice to be able to shove the dog bed away when entertaining.....come to think of it, my dog's current bed will fit under our bed. Now I know where to put it! I have a painted black piano that perfectly matches my living room decor. I'm not going to feel bad about it, especially when my 4 year old daughter gets the biggest smile just sitting at it and playing along with the music in her head. As Addicted2Decor said, any piano that isn't in its natural color is painted....and even then it's stained. I see guitar players with painted and marked up guitars. I have seen a fiddle player playing on the most gorgeous teal fiddle ever, too. I don't think painting an instrument makes you an unserious musician. Perhaps it just means you care enough to give your instrument a few more years of life with a face lift! Music To Our Eyes: Pianos In The Home |

First of all, I love your curtains. I say keep 'em and use those as your inspiration. Bedrooms should be "cool" rooms with calming colors for most people. If you like your bedroom to be a relaxing place, go with cool colors. Paint the walls a creamy white, light gray, mint green or slatey blue. Your dressers/nightstands are a bit tall for the bed. I say move those to an opposite wall and push them together to visually make them one unit if possible. If they aren't the same height, maybe just keep one out and put the other in the closet? Get shorter side tables for your bed and see if you can't lower those pendants a bit. How often do you use the fan? If not much, you could make a big impact by switching it out for something like this to play up the floral element of the curtains: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90147465 How To Redecorate Small Master Bedroom?
