We have a thin rug like that from another company, but we put a rubber rug mat under the whole thing, and it doesn't seem to be a problem. Sally's Colorful Crib My Room |

My daughter has the garden one, and we're happy with it so far. It's big enough to hold quite a bit, but still small enough that when she looks inside, the money looks sizable. A word of caution--the lock is really poor quality, worse than I would have expected. My five year old can't really open it; only I can. Teaching Kids About Money with Mudpuppy Banks |

I'm back. I seriously hope someone says that in front of me some day. I'm mentally armed and ready. We have so many problems on our hands that we really don't have space for childish adults with fifteen year old girl sensibilities. Ugh. Gifts From Craigslist: Score Or Scandalous? |

She would never think of such a thing, really? We seriously need a major paradigm shift here. Our world is literally filled with such an insane amount of stuff, I personally find it appalling that someone wouldn't even consider buying a perfectly good used item simply because she wants it new, in a box, with new packaging! I agree with Wendi about real needles and real pins. Both my 5 and 3 year old use them. My 3 year old doesn't sew yet, but she likes to put the pins into the pin cushion. If you tell them it's sharp, they'll be careful, believe me--they don't want to poke themselves. We've never had a tear shed in relation to a pin or needle either. PS I'd also wait on the toy sewing machine, for sure. Hand-sewing is so valuable at this age because of the enhancement of fine motor skills and the sheer tactile experience. My kids do have an old plastic "Sew Easy" sewing machine from the 1980's, only because I found it at a garage sale for a dollar and I'm TOTALLY nostalgic for the one I had at that age. They do kind of play with it, every so often, but just for imaginative play--and they could use something else just as easily for that. I'm fairly sure I will just teach my girls to use my machine when they're bigger, and they can just share with me unless they get super into sewing, and they can get their own real machine. My five and a half year old loves everything sewing-related, and she's been doing it for probably a year and a half. Like Maya above, I'd say embroidery is a good starting point. You could include some tapestry needles (skip the plastic ones--metal is much nicer), an embroidery hoop, and some different mesh fabrics. We even used fruit and veggie mesh, here: Sewing Kit Ideas for a Beginner Good Questions |

Yep, natural. Personally, I don't think it's the fact that something smells that is bothersome to most, but rather the fact that most of these things made of unpleasant, unhealthy ingredients. Are Kids & Fragrances Incompatible? |

OMG. First of all, the book looks awesome--especially the baby in moby wrap page. But also, the name of that blog is the absolute cutest thing I have ever heard. This, in almost that same pronunciation, is what my kids talk about doing nonstop. They say progjecks, but still...same idea. Too cute. I'm on my way over there right now.
