I'd look into matte wall decals that you can apply yourself (And, they are removable too!). They appear as if they were painted on the walls. You can have them custom made from your own design or they can help you out. The two places I know of that do this are: www.dezignwithaz.com and www.whatisblik.com

dezign with a z already has some circle sets they call "bubble cloud" but it's not as graceful a configuration as you've found here. good luck!

Ok, at the at the risk of being extremely redundant....craigslist. It's really the go-to resource for rentals. But in addition to that, if you find a neighborhood that feels good to you drive, or better yet, walk through and look for rental signs. I found my spectacular Pac. Heights apartment (for under market value!) that I've been in for nearly 7 years without using craigslist.

@desireeg:
Those metallic papers are gorgeous! I fear they'd clash with the gold and copper leafing in the screen.

@chris_94131: funny you should say 'deco vibe'. I'm searching for an early 30s deco executive desk to replace the large black computer hutch.

THANK you for all these suggestions -- it's terrific input.
I'm still having a hard time imagining turquoise. Can someone point me to an example of a shade of turquoise that you feel would work?

Excellent suggestion aj914! I could move that chaise to be more centered and I bet a dark color would make it feel more like an alcove. And, you've busted me on the short curtain - I haven't gotten that far yet!

Answer to eljayw:
Unfortunately the chaise is a discontinued piece that I bought from a leather furniture showroom room near the SF Design Center that is now closed down. There were two lonely pieces in this cropped cream mohair fabric in a sea of leather. Sorry I can't be of more help, eljayw.

Thanks for all these suggestions!

It's interesting how people are reading the colors in the furniture. The chaise lounge is actually a creamy beige with a warm almost peachy cast to the nap. The chair that some read as blue, is a very very pale grey-sage.

I'm having a hard time imagining the turquoise, but I'll have to think on that one!

I just want to curl up in every one of these deliciously dark rooms.

Consider using a complimentary color (blues) or a split compliment (Blue-green or Purple-Blue). A strong pattern (maybe a wide stripe?) may help break up the "solid" feel of all the leather pieces together. I'd stay away from any warm colors since you have enough warmth in the orange leather.
My first thoughts were either rich dark teal or deep slate blue.
