I'd follow Aesthete's lead in dividing the room up into sections. I also have a large room with minimal wall space due to doorways and a sliding glass door. What we did was divide the room into three sections: TV/visiting area, informal dining area and a computer desk area with a laptop for email, bill paying etc. (The big ugly computer, file cabinet, etc. are hidden away in the office) Apartment Therapy New York | Arranging Furniture in a Large Space?
