What is the best kind of miso to buy? For that typical restaurant miso soup, what do you use? Also, what about red miso?

don't do it! I once had the most gorgeous bright green silk shantung softa that was my grandmas. It was stored in my ex-boyfriend's basement and survived a big flood! Finally, when I moved into my first post college apartment, I convinced my dad (and the ex's dad) to awkwardly put it in a truck and move it to the city. Sadly, It did not fit in through the front door of the apartment. Firemen downstairs couldn't even get it in through the window:( Sadly, it died a slow death in our hallway until my landlord threatened eviction if we didn't move it. Now it is memorialized in this post on facebook https://www.facebook.com/notes/marisa-harary/anyone-need-a-couch/2222625137 but I will always regret not holding on to it! The green was brilliant!

The picture here does not look like a traditional spanish gaspacho where the soup is very creamy...not chunky...
Just got back from Seville and I just don't think american's know how to make it. The woman I was staying wtih advised me with the simple recipe of Tomatos, green Pepper, Garlic (remove the inner green stalk to take out the bitterness), bread, vinegar and olive oil. I'd love to know how the real Spaniards get their gaspacho so smooth and tasty??

@RuthSus, I had the same problem. I also may have accidentally used my hand blender in the soup before fully removing the rind. Anyone have any tips aside from the obvious?

Does anyone know if the Mocajete from Crate and Barrel needs to be seasoned? I received one as a wedding gift and haven't gotten around to seasoning it yet but I would love to skip that step if its not necessary!

this post is so timely! i broke out my slow cooker two nights and cooked a few lbs of beans in it! The last two days my boyfriend and I have been eating some variation of bean salad for lunch! The slow cooker is WAY better than the oven in this heat! My one issue is that I can't figure out what the solids to water ratio should be....anyone have any good tricks?
