The couches. Where do they come from?

I live in a small community in West Hollywood dubbed "Little Russia" because of the large Russian population that lives in such a small radius. My building consists of 20 units, 17 of which are inhabited by elderly Russians who are hands down the most abrasive, unfriendly, and often rude people I've ever encountered. I'm aware that some of our differences are cultural, but these people seem to generally despise everyone, including each other. I've lived here over 2 years and verbal attacks and heated arguments occur in our courtyard daily, if not hourly, complete with the waving of walkers and canes. Being that I'm a third of their age I don't expect there to be much common ground, but it would be nice to at least get a "hi" or a "goodmorning" back when I address someone in a common area. The most I've ever gotten is a slight head nod, but typically I get a borderline agressive stare down anytime I make any contact what so ever. My courtyard has an awesome pool and lounge area in the back of it and the one time I used it, literally every person walked to their front door or window and stared me down as if I were drowning a puppy. I've never gone back, even during blistering summer heat waves. It's sad because my apartment is awesome, and a steal at the price I'm paying but all of that creepiness and negativity already has me on craigslist looking for alternatives.

The Aeron chair is still the most comfortable thing 've ever sat in. Super customizable so how ever you ride you can make it work. My office was stocked with cheapie $99 Staples chairs that resulted in chronic neck/shoulder pain so I finally decided to step it up and bring in my own chair and boom just like that I'm feeling great. I got my Aeron used on craigslist for $280 and it was the best money I've ever spent.

My issue is with titling this store "Affordable". Seems like it would have been a lot more affordable at the original Goodwill they got all this stuff from no? So many businesses like these thrive on finding thrift store/garage sale items and reselling them for 5-10x the price they paid for them. Sure this is convenient for people with money to burn, but for me the fun is in the search. It's all about the thrill of the hunt - finding something old and unique that speaks to you for cheap is my idea of a good time. Going to a mass collector of overpriced stuff takes all of the fun out of the experience, and all of the money out of my bank account.

Another hoarder here. Maybe I'm overly sensitive but all of the CFLs I've tried give me migranes after a few hours. Also the cool tones make everything look inaccurate color wise which is a problem if you're a designer. I will go for natural light over all else, but don't see myself using CFLs until the technology improves significantly.

This place is bitchin' and that geometric terrarium is everything I've ever dreamed of.

Also, where in Echo Park does such a place exist?

Yeah this pretty much blows. No one cares about cities they don't live in and having only 3 options for LA isn't enough to make me click in to this. I'll just go to craisglist on my own if this sticks.

A friend of mine recently brought me back one from a trip to Arizona. Hippie shit connotations aside, I hung it above my bed and in addition to having really intense, vivid dreams it kind of looks rad in a slightly mid-century minimalist setting.

I've been here and can attest this place is truly awesome! Lauren has been cutting my hair for years and I was so stoked to see her and Danny create such a bitchin' shop. Really great style and attention to detail... looks even better in person!

anyone know of good resources for finding a bitchin' southwestern rug like in #5? I'd prefer vintage but I'm open... seems hard to find ones that aren't super tacky, that one is kind of perfect.

I've actually had that same kangaroo, in grey since I was a kid.

The backstory is they were given away as a gift with purchase from a high end jewelry company in the 50's and 60's. My grandfather, a Jeweler, had a bunch of these hence my father and I each ended up with one...I think they're pretty rad and it's actually really useful storage wise.

Agreed on all the tips, but the Rose Bowl Flea Market is not as good as it used to be a few years ago. You used to be able to walk away with pretty decent steals, but now everyone there selling things knows exactly how much what they have is worth and usually won't budge on price. The last few times I've gone the majority of the vintage pieces were insanely overpriced and a lot of the vendors had extremely poor attitudes. No doubt it partially was the fact that it was during summer and they had been baking in 100 degree weather all day, but I had a number of vendors complain about the fact that the Rose Bowl had raised the price of their space rental and that was now trickling down to the customer in the form of non negotiable prices.

I had a crazy pigeon infestation in an apartment in Hollywood. My balcony had become literally over-run with pigeons, and almost every inch was covered in pigeon crap and feathers. The smell was sickening and it literally became 8 square feet of my apartment I was paying for but not able to use. I complained to the landlord, on multiple occasions, as did the other tenants, and he said they had tried everything and nothing had worked, so we were forced to live with it. I tried blocking the balcony off with hanging plants and curtains and they always found a way in. It got to the point where I was squirting them with water bottles, but I'd end up feeling bad when they'd just sit there and not know what to do about it.

I gave it a year, and after having several sets of pigeon eggs laid and cared for on my balcony, I gave up and moved out. I told the landlord it was pretty much solely due to the pigeons, and he couldn't have cared less. Now I make sure to bring up the issue with any perspective landlords as to avoid this kind of thing in the future.

I went here once a few years ago...there was lot's of cool stuff but most of it was covered with a thick layer of dirt and dust, probably from the car exhaust of La Brea. Most pieces seemed kind of over-priced for their condition.

This place is gross...I went once to see a movie on a Saturday night...parking is impossible, and there were hoards of families and kids just slothing around, doing nothing but moving slowly and taking up space.

I guess it's a great place to go if you just want to leave your house and sit around somewhere "new", but don't even think about going there if you have some kind of purpose like actually buying something specific, seeing a movie, etc.

It's basically Disneyland on a bad day minus all imagination and fun. You couldn't pay me $2000 a month to live here.
