The first picture has white bead board and cream colored wall paper with a diamond pattern. It looks nice.

I think it will look cute above tall bead board and a plate rail. My only concern it that there is no white in the wallpaper - just cream stripes and cream in the flowers. Perhaps you can find something similar with white instead of cream.

I have a friend named Art. He loves to cook. He is always in the kitchen.

That disco toilet is so Studio 54. The bathroom would need strobe lights for the perfect ambiance. Tee hee!

First of all, I love it! I like the light fixture you picked out, but I have to agree with thorndale regarding the rug, though. It does not have an industrial feel. Personally, I would use a black and white rug.
Thorndale also brought up painting the medicine cabinet silver, which would be nice. My first instinct on that one is to paint it a high gloss black to blend in with the black tiles.

I'm thinking of a nice light blue for a backsplash. Here is my humble offering for an idea:

That looks like triple stitch. I can do triple stitch *poorly, * I am very bad at keeping the stitches even. No Girl Scout cookies for me.
That is such a great idea, though! If it gets dusty, you can just hand wash it and drip dry it! Niiiiiiice!
Happy Birthday!

I like the second incarnation. I'm not a particular fan of using chairs as beside tables, but that' just me. The wall color is lovely and the slanted ceiling gives the room a great deal of character. Where did you get the tall mirror? I also love the Henny blanket. The best feature? That calico snuggled on the bed!

I remember seeing a This Old House feature on AT on how to build your own sideboard using stock kitchen cabinets. The one pictured looks much more traditional than what you're after, but you don't have to finish it the same way. Watching Tommy Silva work is always a treat. :)

You can also get custom doors from Rockler

The Ruth and Ollie one is fabulous, though! debralee suggested saving up to purchase it. This is a great idea, too. It's amazing where you can find money when you really want something! By the way, I'm going on the premise that you drink Maxwell House at home.

I'm with PurpleNails and PucciLevy. The best depiller is a cheap disposable razor. The razors give you more control of what you're working on.

You are right-that wallpaper has got to go. I agree with the others regarding replacing the ugly light fixtures as well. You may want to replace the doorbell chime cover and the switch plates as well.
My color suggestion is a light-to-medium cheery blue (the inspiration coming from the vase on the table). A mirror or two on the walls will also help reflect natural and electric light and give the hallway an overall brighter feel.

1. Door hinges that someone painted over 20 times
2. Big black sectional sofas (any sectional sofa)
3. "Words" as "Art." I almost want to buy wooden letters that spell out, "This is stupid."
4. Stainless steel appliances
5. Really old and crappy kitchen cabinets
6. Overuse of flower prints
7. 1980s lighting fixtures
8. Rolling ocean waves "paintings" in unnatural colors

10. Sage green - it just makes me cringe
11. J.C. Penney catalog look
12. Baskets on bookshelves used as decorative storage (yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck!)
13. Peach. Don't buy it and paint the walls - it just does not work.
14. Gold bathroom fixtures
15. Way too many decorative pillows on the bed
16. Enormous and really cheap TV cabinets
17. Color phobia
18. The "Tuscan" look
19. Copper Jello molds hung up as wall art

What paint color did you use for the living room area? It looks gray with a hint of lilac. I've been wanting to paint my main living area that color for a while but I did not want a gray that was too dark.
Thank you!
