Oh! Me too. I'm having company over tonight, and I hope I have time to rearrange the living room before they arrive. Nothing major tonight. A bookcase, a chair, my desk, the shoe rack, my sewing table....

And all because I find the little table my husband is using to keep his computer tower off the floor awkward.

So inspired by this paleo's kitchen. Love your cookbook collection. I can't wait to design my own space to display a similar stash :)

I have also found that the Mayo Clinic Cookbook is a wonderful source for many Paleo friendly recipes. Especially love what you can do with fruit, honey and some spice.

Now convinced I need a little more Yellow in my life.

I had a yellow bedroom as a child. Couldn't sleep properly until it was painted green. Perhaps I should keep the yellow to a workroom or common Living space.

Only keep it if you love it and it fits your needs.

Is it deep enough? Sturdy enough? Sometimes older sinks can feel dirty because of age and/or rust. If so, can you replace the faucet so that it matches your new appliances. Just be careful not to stray so far from the original design that the faucet looks awkward.

Rug & Ottoman or Table to Help Tie Room Together?

I think your problem is multifaceted. the couch and chair fight proportionally, and you've divided the room into a brown side facing a silver/grey side. The tiny end table is not heavy enough to support the weight of the furniture but not delicate enough to accentuate the curved legs of the chair.

I'd love to be able to see the sideboard from the dining table. It's so beautifully crafted, and I enjoy your art resting on the surface. So move the sideboard to the wall facing into the dining room, leaving 2.5–3ft open on the left for either plants tall decorations or a floor lamp. Then, move your chair to the right side angled toward the sideboard to frame and highlight it. Large couch against the window, leaving 1-2' to the left for a floor lamp or other tall accent piece.

You can either remove the love seat entirely, or push it back against the wall it is currently sitting near. If there is room, an oversized piece of art and potted low light plant would compliment the art you already have on the sideboard. Topiary, fern or vine, depending on your personal taste. If the art is big enough, you can even move your current side table there as well, and place the plant on it.

Finally, your rug and table. Look for a rug with lines or pattern that draw your eye down the length of the rug to your sideboard. Truly the highlight piece of your room right now. You can choose almost any color rug, as you have neutrals throughout the room. Perhaps look to pull colors from your art to compliment. A low lying, light stained wood coffee table will help lift the room, and your eye. Pick something with thin or thick legs, but avoid a platform base.

love the drawers, hate the awkward positioning of the double frames over the bed. Way too close to the pillows. Makes it feel cramped.

I think form-follows-function went out the window in the last 50 odd years. Sure there are companies who practice the philosophy, but in essence, it's not good for business to encourage consumes to value function over form. And lets be honest, the newest blender that has five new settings is not a function feature. It's a form feature. It's a "look-how-many-different-sized-granules-I-can-chop-ice-into" bragging rights form feature.

We are encouraged to believe every small feature change is a matter of function, when really, it is a form of novelty.

Finally we are beginning to take a critical look at our habits, and I think workmanship and function are going to be climbing their way up the priority list. Hopefully, heirloom pieces will begin to be valued again, because I certainly know that the side tables I picked up from my grandmother, who bought them 40 years ago, are in better condition than the Ikea Billy bookshelves I bought 4 years ago.

I just moved this week into a beautiful hardwood floor condo. Our landlord charged us the same price she charged the last tenants. I don't think she would have changed the price had it been winter.

The only time I can think that the price drop would be relevant is with lower end housing that is having trouble filling or apartment complexes with 10% vacancies. My experience is that the nice places are scooped up the moment they are posted, regardless of season.

While it is meant to be an ashtray, it would service well as a dual small plant stand and key tray.

I just had another thought. Why not create some repetition in the room that compliments the column? Large round area rug in the seating area and a couple of round or disk shaped vases. Or round throw pillows if you decide to go with the reading nook.
