Try spreading cinnamon and/or cayenne pepper along the foundation of the house, this worked for me. Also, I've heard talcum powder works and cotton balls dipped in mint oil left near entry points and outside.

How about removing the doors and hardware, wrap the doors with fabric that you staple to the back of the door. Change the hardware to something more modern. I think it could look really cool.

1. Paint the room. The peachy color is totally wrong with the light coming in from the foyer.
2. Change the foyer light to something more substantial.
3. Have the rail removed and custom bookshelves built to the same height, that extend along that whole expanse.
4. Keep the sofa in the same spot, but move it more into the center of the room.
5. Replace the curtains.

Behr Toasted Wheat in Flat. It's a beige, but a good, strong, neutral beige that works with the pale blue, red, AND brown in the room. It will make the baseboards pop.

You could remove the doors and replace them with a track that is mounted to the outside of the opening and extends along the wall, kind of like a barn door. The door you choose could almost anything, but I like the idea of having plexiglass with lighting inside the laundry closet. I also like the IKEA panel idea, you don't have to use their panels, you can use any fabric cut to the correct length and width. That might be more cost effective and changeable.

I agree with mattab, gray would be great, but a green/gray. A white shower curtain with gray border or accent, and towels in gray and green.

Oh. My. God. I JUST hung a Bygel (IKEA) rod across MY kitchen window like in the first photo. It has made the space so functional. Glad to see someone else had the same idea.

Tall Billy bookcases from Ikea along the long wall. Small, contemporary sectional, with longest section facing fireplace. Combination desk/console table behind short end of sectional, so your back is to the window and you face towards the door. Candles of different heights in the fireplace, LCD tv mounted above.

How about a faux tin (plastic) backsplash? It's cheap and can be installed with the provided double stick tape. It can be left in the silver/pewter tone or painted a different color. I think that would provide a good contrast between the white cabinets and countertops.
