This post is crazy. You go to the dry cleaners, they give you free hangers, nothing wrong with them, no reason to stop using them. I would think the plastic ones everyone I know has would have to be worse for the environment because eventually they snap, crack, break and go in the garbage. They are aesthetically beautiful, last longer, work better. They are recyclable. If you have clothes you don't want to slid off of them, you can double up a rubber band on it to provide grip, or gently bend half moons with pliers.

I thought it was really cool I saw on the internet that people leave carrots on a plate for Santa to feed his reindeer a snack, in lieu of cookies being left for him. I've never heard of anyone doing that before, but it sounds like a nice tradition to me.

@ Hope S.

A moka pot doesn't make 'true' espresso, for that reason people sometimes call it "poor man's espresso" because it's cheaper than buying a really expensive espresso machine. You wouldn't want to use less coffee to create some sort of drip coffee, but always follow the instructions that came with your moka pot. The flavor/body/consistency/texture, whatever, would sort of be somewhere like if you crossed espresso with drip coffee in the first place. At the end of the day, it's a different coffee brewing method that yields a different end result than either true espresso or drip coffee though. I also think it's important to note that while most moka pots picture their product with espresso, with a beautiful crema on top, it can be difficult to achieve that using one. And if you use espresso blend, regular, whatever, you can get really different results from that.

I got the impression from the original article I read, that whomever originally asked the question was sort of setting Anthony Bourdain up. But he's pretty verbose about his opinions, and I'd like to think even if someone was, he'd know he was putting himself in a argumentative pickle by answering the question the way he did. I can just kinda see Anthony Boudain mulling over, "Hmmm....if I say this it's really gonna tick off Paula Deen. Am I good with that? Yeah, I'm good with that."

When I was growing up, it was stylish for all the kids to wear medical ID tag bracelets, that had our addresses and our parents' phones numbers on the back. Specifically in case we got lost. I think the school distributed order forms to the parents for them. It seems alot more practical than one time use stickers to put on a kid. When my son started kindergarten I got him one. They look like this: http://www.makemethis.com/bracelets-main.html

When I was growing up I always used a vintage coffee pail my Uncle Joe made, with a gingham napkin wrapped all around an apple and a sandwich.

I wish I'd known about that when I was a barista. It was really annoying arguing with people we absolutely weren't serving them soy milk gone bad.

I agree with splatgirl.

Additionally I've been eating honey every day since I was 16, just a spoonful, usually of the local stuff, and this spring was the first year I didn't, and it was the first year I ever had allergies. I just don't think stuff like that is coincidental.

Growing up I thought cake was gross, and I still think most box mix cakes are gross. The frosting is always too sugary. I only started to like cake when I fell for stuff like rum cake with no box mix added, oatmeal cake with broiled coconut topping, cardamom coffeecake, etc.

I do like snoqualmie falls pancake mix, and I get mixes to make creme brulee because I find the idea of making it from scratch intimidating.

I got a stainless steel moka pot from Ikea this last Christmas right when I decided my coffee was starting to take on a metallic taste. And I decided the Ikea one was actually better-- it has all the flavor from the method of that preparation, minus the metal taste from the aluminum. Plus, since it's from Ikea, it's not as expensive as some other stainless steel moka pots are out there. I guess one plus to buying Bialetti is it'd probably be easier to replace the rubber ring inside when you need to.

When my boyfriend took me out the other night for thai food, we got coconut ice cream at the end of it, which tasted amazing, but it wasn't coconutty at all. It was floral, like orange blossom water.
