i thought it was a speaker at first. i guess it could be a fan too though...

maybe i've just always wanted a speaker system in the bathroom walls, so that's what my mind jumped to... everyone is a rock star in the shower! :)

it's not near a window, but the bottom right corner of the bedroom might work...
or maybe the bottom left corner of the living room, by the window. still leaves you room for a couch facing the fireplace and maybe another chair or 2 seater between the couch and reading nook.

I love how the last picture says he lives right next to the coca-cola sign, when it says pepsi-cola right in the picture... :)

Anyway... Brilliant place. I am extremely jealous.

I like the coffee table idea. What about a simple slipcover for it when not in use?

A removable top would be a good idea, but you still see the sides, which are not exactly like a normal table. I'm sure you could find something or simply make something with a 6' x 6'piece of fabric.

I don't like those matching patchwork chairs, but the bamboo wallpaper behind the computer is great!

i understand the need to show contrast in before and after shots, but the before shots are a complete disaster.
i would like to have seen it cleaned up a little bit before taking the "before" picture"
not that it really matters too much, but it's tough to see exactly what it looked like before under the piles of clothes and sheets everywhere.
i mean the dresser drawers aren't even closed!

anyway... very nice job on the makeover.

@quiltmaster... look what they did w/ New York.
I'm assuming they'll have the big island be the main board, then have a couple small pieces to represent, Oahu, Maui, etc... mainly as decoration if you're laying it out.

The Kitchen would be a good place to start. Limited paintable wall space will cut down on the amount of paint needed, but should make a significant impact.

I would go bedroom next, because the last thing you want is to hate the room you have to sleep in.
If needed, you can probably get away with painting 3 of the 4 walls with some color that would blend well with the beige.
I've used to keep the wall behind my headboard one color to offset the color i choose for the other 3 walls. Looks good and you have the bed and side tables there to cover most of the wall.

definitely a gray...

i don't think a light gray would make the wall seem top heavy if it matches to the mortar.

grab some color swatches of various shades and check it out!
good luck!
